starting to get impatient, still very cloudy
did you put the ridx in a mesh bag first, or just add it to the tank loose? the bran media does look bothersome.

how much, per how many gallons did you use?
sometimes it's good to start with an underdose and gradually work up (just to "see" less of breaking-down action in water).

also, if added when your filtration is full of gunk (not cleaned for a while) the first stage of using ridx can loosen stuff and cause more cloudieness before the system turns around.
something as simple as changing out your last stage, fine mechanical media, can solve the cloud.

I tried to follow the 1 tablespoon per 50 gallons guideline i saw some were doing earlier in the thread. I also used your suggestion of containing it in some pantyhose and putting it in the outflow of the HOB filter. I'm hoping my water change helps a bit and the next dose i will keep lower.

lacking comment from you as to how long it'd been since your filtration system was cleaned, it sounds like the ridx is loosening up detritus that has been hidden away. Don't worry, I did pretty much everything wrong (over-exuberant) & no harm was done. then I did a good water change & only after my 2nd dose, replaced my fine filter floss. it had caught much more dirt than usual.
Now that my systems are in better shape, I reduced my dose to 1 TBLSPN per 50G, because ridx is powder- I hate seeing the powder cloud in tank. I think the dose can be tailored according to each tanks condition & stockload etc.

sorry, it was cleaned the week prior, it was running on another established tank with routine monthly cleaning for about 7 months.

"PROBIOTICS FOR FISH:

The use of probiotics whether homemade or commercial should be performed immediately after use of antibiotics on your fish either or both "in tank" or in baths.
This not to say the use of probiotics after treatments is a must, rather it is an aid to further recovery, especially for older/weaker fish.

There are many commercially available probiotics for fish, however the shelf life of some is often questionable.
Some complete fish food diets also now add probiotics in an encapsulated dried form such as Aqua Master Premium Fish Foods

However making you own probiotic is not difficult at all; simply using a plain yogurt with no sugar or other additives can work.

With this yogurt simply take 2-4 feedings worth of dry fish food and add just enough yogurt to moisten. Let this sit for about 15 minutes then use part of this fish food and refrigerate the rest.
Continue this for about 3-5 days (watch for any additional pollution during this time too by monitoring parameters, ammonia/nitrites in particular)

This can also be used to feed feeder fish, worms, or any live food fed to carnivores immediately prior to the feeding of these live foods to their intended carnivore fish."
