No, I know. That is what I said in my original post

"There is a reason he jumped past Edgar or Mendes because of the 100% chance of the UFC ruining a future cash cow for the company. Mendes and Edgar would destroy Connor. Stylistically, they are a horrible match up for him."

I know why they did it. I just hate it cause I have to listen to all the casual fans and WWE fans talk about how Connor is the GOAT and he will walk over Aldo and anyone else they put in front of him. July 11th can not get here soon enough.

*edit* I'm not referring to anyone on here as casual fans or WWE fans. I'm referring to where I work and the gym I go too. I hear it daily.

I'm Where I'm At
yea it was the right play.

my comment wasn't exactly toward you, but more in general and toward those (and there are a lot of them) who thinks it's bs that conor got a title shot at this point. what they need to understand is that cub swanson was the one and true #1 contender and was next in line to get a title shot. it's just that mendez got the last one and cub didn't want to wait so long. i'm not sure if he had a choice to wait or fight edgar. either way, he faced edgar and got absolutely dominated.

therefore, it was an easy choice to give it to conor

I don't care about all the talking from fans. no matter what side they are on. all this talk, all the hype, all the anger from haters or love fans, it's all good for the sport. and that's all I care about. there is buzz in the air and it's just gonna get more intense as it gets closer to fight night. conor is getting a massive amount of support, as well as amassing a huge following of haters and doubters. controversy and hate is a strong tool used by a self promoter and the promotion to sell fights. and conor is laughing all the way to the bank, win or lose

my only thing against the ufc is that I think they are pushing too hard, too soon on promoting the fight. we have until july and they are already pushing hard. everyone is hyped up now,............but will have to sit and wait until july, lol

I disagree though that this will be the biggest ppv event in ufc history. I don't think brock's record is in any danger any time soon. ronda and conor may get there eventually. ronda lacks the competition and big name dancing partner to draw that kind of numbers and conor needs to be champ and stay champ. if he doesn't become champ he will never break the ppv record

ronda is more popular than conor and she only did a little over half a million buys. and to this day I don't think they have released an official estimate

I have no doubt in my mind that this will be jose aldo's biggest, by far, ppv event. and that is all thanks to the irishman

I personally believe it will be the biggest fight in UFC history due to all the hype the company has invested into it. It definitely is costing more than the Brock fight (which basically sold itself) with the world tour alone, but I believe this fight will bring in the big bucks. As far as Ronda goes, I don't believe she will ever bring a large PPV event. I think the women can put on some amazing fights and she is a freak athlete, but she will never draw in a big PPV event by herself. Even if she were to fight Cyborg, it still would need Jones or Velasquez (or them fighting each other...) to draw in a big crowd.

if conor beats aldo, and I have the Irishman as the underdog, that is his only way to break huge numbers beyond this event

this is his first title shot and is at his peak draw thus far, if he loses he won't draw more beyond this fight.

i can't, in my mind, imagine this fight will draw more than brock's record ppv of 1.6 million buys

it's not happening dude. i'd consider it a success if it sells 500k

i think you are overestimating the drawing power of conor. aldo has always been a weak draw. 200-300k is his average if i'm not mistaken

ronda has already proved she can be a huge draw after Weidman/Belfort got pulled from that card. they gave people the chance to get refunds. she still went on to main event and the card did extremely well considering bigfoot/mir was pulled, jacare/romero got pulled and then finally the original main event, Weidman/Belfort got pulled.

who knows if she can draw 1 million buys, but she sure is showing that she's getting there.

who cares who brings in most money? it pertained to the content of the discussion. some people feel he shouldn't have got the title shot. who brings in more money may get chosen over ones who didn't. even then I would argue he does deserve a title shot.

besides, I actually care to know these details. drawing more money means adding to the longevity of the sport. good stuff to be informed about. at least that's the kind of fan I am
