True, but there's usually other signs of injury in those cases.
I am not sure. During certain times of year that are apparently breeding seasons, of which there are a few a year, they jump and fight often and bang their heads on the tank cross-boards and walls so bad we can hear this in the house. I can't recall ever seeing any injury marks on the skull. Not that I looked for them, just can't say I've noticed.

That's why I said that they have to likely hit their head in the right spot and the head will look fine but not the eye anymore. Alf has been with us for 5 years and has gone through hundreds of fights and several successful courtships being the alpha male and only recently suddenly got the drop eye.

Amazing arowanas , quick question did your arowanas ever go through a period off being extremely skittish?, I've grown a pair off silvers up to 26-28" both are still together however they have now become so jumpy, to the point of jumping out the tank 5 times each, I can only feed them when the lights go out, their housed in an 11ftLx4ftWx3ftH aquarium so I doubt it's the space causing an issue, advice please if feasible.
Four silver arowana in 4500 gal tank, three are 30", one recent rescue is ~24".

My subjective comparative assessment is they are all males based on color on the back and the length of the pelvic fins and extensions. My only female displayed a notably darker color dorsally and longer pelvic fins+extensions. She had had three or four clutches of babies over the last few years, which were mouthbrooded by alpha male named Alf: https://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/...wana-spawn-on-mfks.670573/page-2#post-7532553

I had lost my only female Kinky not long ago but these males are still doing this circling each other thing but no significant fights anymore since Kinky had been killed in the other 4500 gal (the reason I rehomed them into this 4500 gal).

Amazing arowanas. Quick question, did your silvers go through a period off being extremely jumpy?, I've raised 2 from 4inch to 26-28" and have become really scared of people or any movement in front of the aquarium their housed in my 11ftLx4ftWx3ftH so I doubt it's the space, and the other fish are very small compared to them to cause them to become skittish. I can only feed them at night, this has only recently started from around 6 weeks ago. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

They get jumpy when it's the breeding season time. I think yours must be doing the same. It has nothing to do with them being afraid, stressed, or wanting to bail. But if you are sure it's the people that cause them to jump of of water, then I'd not know why. It shouldn't be. Unless someone scares them in your absence, like misbehaving children or some such.

Arowana are also sensitive to ammonia and nitrite. If the water is less than pristine, they may try to bail too. Or sit on the bottom and not eat.

Fifteen month update. All four aros have been doing well. It's hard to say if they grew any since last time (Jan 2018). If so, perhaps a couple inches. Doesn't look like any of them have it in themselves to reach 4' but the hope floats for now.

First video features feeding the aros by hand in the second feeding, which begins at 6:38 min.

They look so peaceful. It's also interesting to see some of them are sticking to their own kind, in couples sort of, the arowanas, the gourami, the oscars, also some of the catfish...
I've been trying to the decide which is my favourite...perhaps the gar dressed in the leopard skirt
