Always have... always spray out the tub from the tank water I'm draining and filled the tub.. never had a problem... my Jack's been with me 3 years with that water change method and seems healthy as can be... I also dont have sink or bath tap that has threads... sure can be changed out no problem if I throw some money on a new faucet... I know there are adaptors too but have heard they break easily and are a pain in the ass to put on
No worries, your tub your fish.

Filling from a bathtub has the potential of introducing surfactants, cleaning residuals, etc. Unless one never uses it for bathing/showering. This is actually the first time I have ever heard of someone filling their tank via water from a filled bath tub.
This is what I had meant. You don't know what soap/detergent (cleaning supplies) residues are in the bathtub and what other kinds of bacteria may be living in there.

I'm a bit late to the party but for what it's worth here's my opinion....
The standard advice is to always buy the biggest tank you can, looks like you've certainly done that. Just be prepar d for the sheer amount of maintenance it will require. I used to have a large tank, then with a job that requires travel and a kid coming along it became a chore for me and not the pleasant hobby it used to be. The tank is now sitting empty in my shed and now I have got a 30G long that I won't set up until my Christmas holiday.
I admire your ambition and you seem to be listening to the advice which is good but you need to be prepared for a huge amount of effort to keep a tank running smoothly.
For the fish, if you want a community I would try a mixed small/mid sizes South American set up with acara, geos, festivums, keyholes and similar fish. The tank is big enough to handle a nice amount of them and it would give you valuable experience in how different fish interact with each other.
Good luck with it, you are about to climb a very large mountain.

It works for Nilsafeller and that is fine. To me, this is an easily avoidable risk factor, which you caught right away, Zugs. This is good. We are trying to advise based on rules, not exceptions, for starters. Once one knows the rules, they can start learning the exceptions and experimentation.

What do you think about a pump vs the python? Do you think I should buy a pump, use it to take the water out and then just wait longer to fill it up with the python? Is that the most efficient option?

As well, down the line in a few years when I am ready for a community, I would be able to house a community in the tank correct? Someone mentioned (I think RD but for the life of me I can't find the post), that 24H may be too small. I was thinking of trying an Arowana with Silver Dollars and then some sort of bottom dweller. But could also do just Arowana and Silver Dollars. And I understand that I would first need experience with Silver Dollars and then Arowana separately before I would be ready to do so. I get that.

But I think Silver Dollars for me is a great starting point. Cheaper than other fish and would give me a great intro to the hobby I think. It would be really cool if I could get thin bars, wide bars and blakcberry. To have variety. Would look pretty cool I think. How many do you recommend I get for the 300?

Have you not read anything here? I need to remove myself from this discussion at this point. I would say good luck, but I'm afraid that for this to end in success it's going to take a lot more than just luck.

Thank you for having faith in me...

And I have read every post. I'm not saying that I'm going to go out and get an Arowana right now. I had thought that you had posted something about how 24"H may not be enough for a community in the future. But I can't seem to find it. So I wanted to verify that and see what others thought. Again, I ask these questions not to prepare for now but to prepare for the future.

Well I think the problem is you are missing the important bits of information people are giving you and going back to the same old thing time and again. In your mind the issues are with the size of the tank. Even though people RD. RD. thebiggerthebetter thebiggerthebetter and others are directly telling you the issues will be compatibility, maintenance, feeding and more. The 24h had little to do with what rd said. Reread everything as many times as it takes to get that into your head.
I for one believe as a person with ZERO fish keeping history you are making a huge mistake in getting a 300g tank. You dont even know if you like fish keeping. Youve never done it! Get a 75g find a couple fish you like that are a moderate size compatible with that size tank and try it out for a year or so. I'm not trying to beat you up buddy. But come on when is this line of thinking going to cease. This whole thread is absurd. Its like a dog chasing its tail.
Read the thread please! Stop comenting on half answers and other misinterpretations. Read it word for word and understand what it is they are telling you. I really hope you like keeping fish.
