As hurtful as that was, I shall continue to be your friend, for now.
I am sorry, Neil. The "lol" after "but she's sexy right?" has emboldened me. Perhaps wrongly so. I thought it meant sarcasm. I apologize. Unless you are messing with me...

Lol, it’s all good amigo. I happen to love that fish but as a former purist I understand those who cannot bring themselves to share their love with a hybrid mutant. ?

I see. Hence the Duane's "renegade" label. Things are coming into focus, slowly.

The original carpintis has died, supposedly from poor diet of mostly cheap Zeigler pellets and too much food overall (which is discussed here in depth https://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/...t-too-many-show-fish-need-better-food.728257/ ). It stopped feeding and after a few weeks passed.

11" and 4.5 years old.

The newcomer real texas, it seems, has gone from a 240 gal into a new 1800 gal. 34:40 minutes and on:

The new guy has been doing well in the 1800 gal, feeding a bit too much, as expected, on NLS pellets and glass minnows and cut herring.

As could be expected in the retrospect, we lost the new texas, the real one, which we have gotten in Nov 2019... and in Nov 2020 it couldn't handle the amount of feed it had been hogging. Most obviously to me it got clogged up and perished. I am astonished at how voracious and ravenous these fish are. Up to a couple of days before dying from overfeeding, this fish was the first, as always, to throw itself at the feed and consume and consume and consume. Surely they are genetically programmed to do so, as RD. warned me long ago.

But for the time being, I can't control their intake of feed as I have no separate tank to dedicate to fish like this.

Final size 11". I am guessing 2-3 years old.

The Jack Dempsey cichlid (Rocio octofasciata) doesn't belong in this thread per se but since it is somewhat related, I thought I'd place our posts about it here, especially as this fish might have died also due to my letting it overfeed, just like 1x cynoguttatus, 1x carpintis, 3x Vieja melanura synspillum, and 1x flowerhorn in my "care". As I said, I am a newbie with cichlids.

This specimen was brought to us as a rescue from Port Charlotte, FL, about 5 years ago, at 5" and probably a couple years old. First it had done well, then it developed some kind of external condition that lasted for a few years and was driving me stressed as I couldn't tell what it was, and suddenly the illness cleared when this fish joined our new 1800 gal tank 1.5 years ago.

I believe it finally died from overfeeding too. It has always been a zealous feeder. A few days before death it was still feeding like there is no tomorrow.

8". 7 years old.
