The Jack Dempsey cichlid (
Rocio octofasciata) doesn't belong in this thread per se but since it is somewhat related, I thought I'd place our posts about it here, especially as this fish might have died also due to my letting it overfeed, just like 1x cynoguttatus, 1x carpintis, 3x Vieja melanura synspillum, and 1x flowerhorn in my "care". As I said, I am a newbie with cichlids.
This specimen was brought to us as a rescue from Port Charlotte, FL, about 5 years ago, at 5" and probably a couple years old. First it had done well, then it developed some kind of external condition that lasted for a few years and was driving me stressed as I couldn't tell what it was, and suddenly the illness cleared when this fish joined our new 1800 gal tank 1.5 years ago.
I believe it finally died from overfeeding too. It has always been a zealous feeder. A few days before death it was still feeding like there is no tomorrow.
8". 7 years old.
