11014.jpeg11017.jpeg11021.jpeg11024.jpeg11027.jpeg11030.jpeg11033.jpeg a few of the young females are starting to grow humps. Mom did the same thing when she was younger. I may need to thin these out I haven't lost a single fish in these growout tanks, some are starting to pair off but nothing serious now may be my last chance to remove some of them.

11036.jpeg11037.jpegI was hoping the old fry would eat these but the parents are doing to good of a job protecting them. I also removed as many as I could but mom still hid a good number of them.

Great looking Haits! How do you so easily determine their sex at that size?
Thanks. I have kept multiple pairs of Haitians over the years and it just comes from raising them over and over again, you just pick up on certain traits and characteristics that allow you to determine gender. Also despite the fact that these fish get rather large the begin to spawn at very small sizes, so at this size they are already starting to show spawning behavior which makes it very easy to determine sex.

Any guesses on these guys, SharptoothBass? They are not a pair, they just happened to be in the same shot together. I have a couple that are bigger then the grayish one here but they are almost entirely jet black.

I have males and females that resemble both, so without being able to watch them and see their behavior a guess is just that. Most would say the white one is a male and the black one is a female but that just doesn't hold up with these fish 1111191028j.jpg1111191028d.jpg1111191028b.jpg1111191028.jpgthis tank is full of black males and females.

Okay, I will continue to wait and see how behavior changes. Thanks so much for your time!
No problem you should start a thread and update their progress no one on this forum regularly updates the growth and progress of their Haitians, they look very healthy I'd love to see how they turn out.
