I showed him a mirror a week ago but it stressed him out so I stopped for the time being. I am feeding him hikari cichlid biogold+ and hikari blood red parrot food and okiko head up, from what I have read on this site these are not the best foods but the best I could findA lot of it is based on genetics, but he seems to have a decent one starting. Feed him a good diet and it should grow some more. I also use the mirror technique where a couple times a week I'll show him a mirror for 15 minutes and that is supposed to help out grow some.
I was power feeding him as that was what was recommended by the seller but am slowly decreasing the amount I feed. How much would you recommend to feed and how many times a dayDon’t rush it though. Higher risk of illness and greatly shortered lifespan if you do rush it with power feeding. Water quality above everything. Looks like you may be over feeding. Fast(don’t feed) him for a day and then continue the next day with reduced feeding amount. You only want to see a slight bulge by the end of the day after the last feeding. Other then the that he’s looking good?.
Actually hikari biogold+ is a really good food and Hikari blood red parrot is pretty good too. Okiko is garbage food. I would toss it.I showed him a mirror a week ago but it stressed him out so I stopped for the time being. At this size I would feed twice a day. Feed less then you are feeding now. Don’t feed for a day and let him empty his stomach, too gauge how much you should be feeding, by the end of the second feeding he should have a slight bulge. Smaller then the bulge in the pics you have. You really have to eyeball it and experiment when it comes to the amount you feed but you already know your feeding too much so just gradually lower amount until you find the sweet spot. And there is no benefit to powerfeeding in longterm or even short term. Potential negatives especially with Flowerhorn out way any positive benefit if there even appears to be any.I was power feeding him as that was what was recommended by the seller but am slowly decreasing the amount I feed. The size of the kok is all genetic and nothing to do with how much you feed. Those with water kok (most commonly SRD, GB or some malau) will tends to "kok" bigger and at younger stage. Try not to stress the fish, it will shrink its kok. The happier the fish, the faster the kok grows. Will my flowerhorn increase the size of its hump/kok
