Weird weather here. We have had the coldest start to summer in history. I have still been wearing a coat in the morning but normally would be wearing shorts.
We also had the official worse floods ever in our state a month ago and 3 years ago had the worse bushfires ever. After the floods we now have a mosquito plague and due to the unseasonably cold weather the water isn’t drying up so there’s no end in sight.
Do you guys have the disease myxamatosis in your countries? It’s a man made disease created to control the wild/feral rabbit population, 99% fatal and no cure and spread by most Due to the huge amount of mosquitoes our pet rabbits all got it and had to be euthanised as it’s a nasty disease to let them die from naturally . I felt more sad about that than I expected to.

So I now have a Ford Ranger. But I can assure you it won't be going in any ditches anytime soon, lol.

Well, sure, you say that...and you believe that...but if you had asked me 24 hours ago if I intended to slide into the ditch I would have said the same thing...

The past couple of weeks of unusually very cold temps (for Blighty), seem to be over. Woke up this morning and every little bit of snow and ice that has been with us for the best part of two weeks now, has vanished!

The big thaw is not surprising really, look at the daytime temp for today....12°C!!! It looks like we are in the clutches of a warm front, for today anyway, before temps nosedive a bit into the seasonal norm for us.

With wind chill, currently -39 C here, -38F. At this temperature Fahrenheit starts to catch up to Celsius. Ouch

Yes, it's a rather peculiar phenomenon that. The only part in the whole °C and °F scale where they are actually identical is -40°C and -40°F.

I've got a load of other words that could describe those temps, a mere "ouch" is probably about right for a hardcore Canuck, lol.

Just to add another layer of fun, its been blowing and snowing for days on end, so I start each day with a snow removal workout in -30 something each morning. Going to work in a heated building almost seems pleasant in comparison.

Shortest day of the year today in the northern hemisphere which means that mornings and evenings become lighter to the tune of about 3 minutes per day from now on.

It's pretty much unnoticeable for a while but it's a real turning point in the calendar for me. I hate dark mornings.

Yes indeed! Turning that corner and knowing that the shortest day is behind us is always a nice emotional and mental "boost".

Our temps are up in the -20C range for daytime highs...our insane snowfall has finally petered out...and the temperature is forecast to rise for several days, up to something like -8C a week from now. Woohoo! Time to set up the lounger on the deck and dig out my Crocs and Speedo!
