I hadn't really considered this show until it was mentioned here and I read up on it. I thought it was yet another boring show about the boring lives of a boring bunch of people living a boring existence. I much prefer complete escapism in my entertainment. It sounds like this might fit the bill...
I hope it doesn't follow the same path as The Walking Dead and so many other shows I have watched in the past. They start out with a good premise...hook their audience...and then, once they begin to make money, the focus shifts to simply squeezing every last drop of blood out of the stone before dropping it. I much prefer shows that have a beginning, tell a story, and then have a natural ending...but you don't see that much nowadays. Everything seems to want to end with the door open for a sequel, or another season, or...
Same with books. Does anybody recall the Wheel of Time books by Robert Jordan? Long before they were made into a TV series, those books hit the fantasy scene with a big splash. The first 7 or 8 were terrific; but then they gradually slid downwards in quality until it was obvious that Jordan was now being paid by the word. I think they are now up to 13 or 14? Jordan is long deceased, but the golden pen was picked up by his son and also other authors, I think? The newest books are, relatively speaking, almost unreadable...I say that having read them, so I guess their plan worked...
