Update. Dried off the shell again and did a betadine treatment. Got a closer look now and it looks like the wound is on the surface level of the shell now, no longer deep like before (which means it’s been healing i guess). Still no clue what the top layer is though. Turtle has no loss of appetite, still acting like it’s normal self. Will continue updating until she is 100% healed.

Update. Turtle shell looks like it’s scabbing more now. The big chunk of mystery stuff on the wound to me looks like it’s a scab? Like when you scrape your knee & it starts to heal. Still applying silvadine daily & doing water changes & adding aquarium salt. Turtle still has a killer appetite. Have an appointment with my vet this coming Friday (this was the earliest i could get). Will keep updating this thread.

So it looks like the thing on the wound is a scab. It’s kind of falling off and the bottom looks like it’s healing nicely. Don’t want to pull on the scab or try to force it off. Will post what happens in the next few days. Looking promising!

Update as of right now the scab just came off of the turtle while doing a water change. It does look pretty gross. It’s mostly just meat showing but does not look infected (to me at least). Debating on if i want to put another coating of silvadine or just add salt to the aquarium after water change and see how it is in the morning.

I hope the vet can help.
My last visit he said he wanted to do an injection on the turtle but hesitated because of how small she is. Prescribed silvadine instead & said to check in in 2 weeks. Seeing him again Friday morning. Added a healthy amount of aquarium salt after a 60% water change about an hour ago.

Update this morning. It’s healed up a bit pretty quickly overnight. Guess the water change & salt & silvadine helped a lot. Still nowhere near healed but looking better than yesterdayIMG_0898.jpeg

Wow that’s a stubborn and persistent infection. Perhaps the antibiotic shot your vet recommended might do the trick

Yeah if he suggests a shot tomorrow I’m going to go with it. Running out of options here, really not sure why it’s not getting any better. Added crushed coral sand & coral rocks to increase ph which is good btw 8.0-8.2 (tested this morning). Water changes every 3 days 60%. Temp is 85-86°. Has a good varied diet. Silvadine twice a day (sometimes I’ll skip a treatment to let it heal a bit on its own)
