I just moved these three from Petsmart to my 125 aquarium.

Look at these little chameleons change color when I move the lamp.

They looked incredibly clean and healthy so I did not quarantine these fish. I just gave them a dip and into the big system with 100 guppies, the hybrid African electric blue tiger, three assorted catfish, and one lone molly.

Yes, you could say this is risky not to quarantine, but these three are the most important fish in my 240 gallon cascade system now. Everybody else in the system seems incredibly healthy.

The two on the left seem to hang out together a lot, while the one on the right is a bit more of a loner. Also slightly smaller.
Maybe I got lucky and these fish will eventually mate.

I was actually more worried about the effect of my system on these new fish, since I recently lost my seven-year-old Oscar to unknown causes.

After 2 days, they are at home in the system, chasing guppies, have figured out the community, are eating normally, school together readily, and are learning to come when I talk to them. All great signs.

These really are amazing and intelligent fish, and after my experiences, I will always own Oscars.

I may sell two of the juveniles when about 6”.
Two have paired up a lot, so we will wait and see. I think the odd one is the most lovely. I am most likely to keep him.

But fish change …

Making me want one…stupid fully stocked tanks.
They may be common, but are still near the top of my dream fish list.
Looking forward to watching them grow up!

Beautiful specimens Ulu. Not only are Oscars a stunning fish, they have a great personality too. Sadly, out of all the cichlids, they are the most common found in fish stores.

I mean who can resist those 2" glass surfing little guys with those big puppy dog eyes, and sadly that is what leads to their downfall. Arguably the most abused fish in our hobby taken on by people who all too often can't provide adequate care for them.

When dream tank and set up threads come along I always reply with the European Perch as my number one dream set up. But a very close second is a pair of Oscars. Great fish.

Here are some photographs of them ripping into the blood worms. These little babies are growing fast and they are much different sizes now.

Because of that I have finally been able to give them names, as Papa Bear, Mama Bear, and Baby Bear.

I am sad to report that Baby Bear did not survive. I put him in quarantine tank and he died within a week of that.

Papa Bear and Mama Bear are getting big.

They are rather affectionate too, but so far no fry.
