Both clown loaches have passed away. Tested the GH/KH with appropriate api liquid test kit. GH: 214.8ppm KH: 53.7ppm

Flashing occurs 4 times at the beginning of the video. Also sadly, it appears that the largest two males are showing no signs of easing up on each other so I’ll be rehoming one of them tomorrow.

Flashing before and after water changes. I did do a 40% water change yesterday though and a 6month cleaning on the big Eheim canister filter. I’ve never been able to sit in front of this group of fish for an extended period of time (more than 5-10 minutes) and not see one flash.

Just to note the original 56 gallon Marineland fish tank this group was raised in was later used to temporarily house these discus/cardinal tetras due to a moving situation. It’s now their permanent home but during that time I had moved my fronts/clowns to a larger 90 gallon tank but warned the owner that it may not be safe as I was unaware what was going on with the flashing.

Well, I ended up gifting that tank/filtration system to said individual and the discus/cardinal tetras are thriving with no flashing what so ever. Go figure but I’m happy for him.

I understand what you are going through, I am having the same issue with my tank. Its frustrating to watch them flash. My fish too have a great appetite and full of life, no damaged skin or any visible signs of disease..yet the flashing persists. I am going to dose prazipro and hope for the best

Good luck, I’m now attempting Paraguard to see if that can eradicate any parasites. It’s obviously that they’re infected but I cannot for the life of me figure out the correct remedy. I may bite the bullet and take one of the larger fish to the vet to see what they advise under the microscope but at this point I’m half tempted to just tear the whole tank down for a year, save the filters etc and just start from scratch. Just an absolute nightmare.

I know sometimes it can be an empty stomach that forces them to push out the elongated stuff, other times it’s internal parasites.
Anyways, I noticed last week a couple clown loaches had developed ick so I’m still currently treating that but no visual signs of it anymore. Hard to believe it could have been dormant for almost a year with any visual signs other than flashing by I’ll continue to treat for the next 2 weeks with 87f and salt.

My fear is that the ich was just a secondary illness and not the actual issue that is causing the flashing to persist. Alpha Frontosa has been pretty pale and didn’t eat much today, although he ate a lot yesterday.

Yikes, can’t believe you’re still dealing with this. Didn’t read the whole thread so ignore this if it’s already been covered but have you considered stray voltage from a faulty heater or pump?
