One of my Corydoras fish passed away two weeks ago, and man was it stinky when I fished him out of the tank with my hand.

He did not even get a proper burial. I tossed him over the fence into the garden and figured that the insects would take care of it.

But yesterday I found that my cat had found the sunbleached bones and dragged them out to another part of the garden. There I recovered it.

Here you can see why an Oscar fish does not like to eat a Corydoras. They have nasty spines and they are all bone under the skin.

I'm sorry for your loss. I have to say that the Cory's skeleton is actually kind of cool. I've always wondered what their skeleton looked like. Again sorry for your loss :(

This fish was with us for about eight years, so I am happy he lived so long.

Here’s some pictures of the ventral side.

You can see that the skeleton does not close over the stomach area but has a big flexy plate of cartilage.

You can also see some of the gill structure.

Approx 6.5 years old. Deformed jaw. He was picked on by another Jurupari early in the journey. I made caves for him then removed the other Juru about 9 months later. He survived being in a 110 gal tank with 2 large oscars. He outlived them. He helped bring my 15+ year old silver dollar back from a fungal disease by prodding her to swim and not give up.
Finally he just lost all his strength. Barely swimming (all in last day + 1/2). Had to put him down.
Picture here from stuck chromatophore thread.
