Hi guys noob here, I’d appreciate any insight on my recent purchase. I got it about a month ago, and it had the usual juvenile SR colors (well according to Google lol): red-ish fins, shimmery scales that were almost white/silverish. (First photo) it was 6 inches give or take. It also had torn anal fin which has healed up nicely.

It has since darkened a bit, the lines between the scales on the dorsal side are purplish, and it’s grown about an inch. Thing is there hasn’t been any red color developing on the cheeks, lips or barbs. An aro keeper (from seeing photos/video) mentioned it could be an RTG.

Would you guys have a look please and let me know? Really appreciate it xx

Glad to hear it, moth eaten?
It’s a little skittish still, I guess it’s still settling in? Appetite is healthy, should be good right?

Well I do trust the seller, got my altums from him. Just wanted to be sure cos these fish aren’t cheap lol
Here’s a pic from today.
Any tips for a noob?

First if you want the Red to pop the tank pretty much needs to be blacked out black background black sides even paint the bottom of the tank black.
Also breeders will put a black light on the tanks for a few hours a day to enhance the red and to help present the fish for sale

I see, it will be tricky now to access the back though.
Is the black purely for optical purposes? Or it actually gets the fish turn red better?

thanks xx
