What about mud skippers? I wonder if the sd’s would go after them?

Might be fun to utilize some of the islands for more than just the plants.

Had never even considered them and know nothing about them - except I thought they were brackish? Will make for something new to research and learn about though.

Some nice whiptails cats would look good in there hanging off the driftwood.

Thinking the pink tail is going to be re-homed, pending he survives. He's looking more beat up each day. Not sure if it's self inflicted or if the acara/SDs are giving him a hard time when I'm not looking? Water stats are perfect and I thought the setup would have been of ideal for one. Suppose we live by trial and error sometimes in this hobby.

I've only got experience with the rhineloricara whiptails




They don't produce waste like the other plecos your thinking of.
I can't speak for all catfish that fall under the name whiptails as I've never kept them.
These rhineloricara are no trouble at all, certainly not messy fish to keep.

i wouldnt do mudskippers. they really need a land area with mud preferably.

PLANT UPDATE

Really happy with plant growth under this very low-tech setup full of water-goats.

Anubias roots are being nibbled but not excessively - I can see the roots working their way into the groves and crevices of the wood already too. Congensis anubias is thriving, short and sharp anubias is more just-surviving.

Java moss is already slowly spreading and standing up towards to the light. The humidity keeps it perfectly moist. Hopefully it will root itself down in time.

The salvinia is not being touched by the SD's from what I can see. It looks like it's spreading out by about 1cm per day with each plantlet gaining more leaves. My aim is for it to cover the back and centre surface (between islands 2 and 3) where the filter ripples meet.

The air plants don't appear to be rotting in the humidity - with thanks for the humid tolerant species suggestions.

Awesome photos. I'll be researching - watch this space as I know whiptails are stocked locally.

FISH UPDATE

As if by magic the pink tail started shoaling with the SDs for a little while... and has now finally eaten something. He has also stopped hiding in the last hour. Drastic change in colour too. We shall see... Not holding my breath yet.

With the pink tail - it's left side is it's good side.. The right side looks a bit of a mess. Assuming it calms down, will the damaged scales heal over time? Likewise with the sore on its lip?
