to be fair, the problems I had prior to this were not health issues at all. just aggression issues.

this is the first problem I have had health wise and I know from the feces it was there from the beginning. however, at the time I figured it was from the food I was feeding (used to feed freeze dried plankton a few times per week)..

overlooking this back then was a mistake.

but in reality, what could I really do about it?

you can add metronodiazole to the tank but it is pretty much useless. its like breaking up some asparin into a water bath and soaking in it to cure your headache.

it just doesn't work.

medicated foods have their own sets of problems.

one, they taste bad.

two, many say the medication goes into solution the second it hits the water..in other words, it serves no real benefit other than sounding good..

ich and fungus issues are dead easy to treat.

real internal infections are almost impossible...you need the fishes own immune system to do it for you.

I have given these fish about the best care you can give, which I think is why their colours are so bright and they have grown so fast..

but I don't think its enough..

all the more reason to restart bro. i think, by giving them the best care you can give, youve been putting off the inevitable.
 
Are you sure its not bacterial? That can also produce sloughing of the intestines. Anyway you can collect some feces and look at it under a microscope.
