12 Volt Man's Aqueon 150 Gallon Startup Thread

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks 12 Volt. Reason I am asking, is that I have found beautiful tinfoils with the deep red and black that you have in the LFS and I'm burning to go get them. May have a look today, and thanks for the advice!

You need to get some nice fish. Are you gonna get rid of the tinfoils again? Could you not do that, then drive like 60 miles to LFS's you've never been to, odds are they might have different suppliers?
Good luck with it and keep us posted.

I did get rid of the tinfoils. I had to. the ironic thing is that I treated them with metro to cover my ass before I saw any issues and it didn't help.

I was talking to my fish friends at the LFS where I used to work and they are not surprised. quite often these fish are kept in outdoor ponds in Florida or Asia at the suppliers with thousands of fish in them.

so internal protozoans/bacterial infections like this can spread like wildfire in the crowded conditions..

another update to my fishroom with be this:

after 10 years of saltwater, I will be switching my 65g saltwater back over to freshwater.

I have a school of mono argenteus that are just too much for the tank.

I have 7 that are good sized now, and I cannot keep the tank clear anymore. even with light feedings (not even every day) and water changes..

its just way over stocked.

so I have two options:

either cut their numbers way back

or

switch back to fresh.

I have decided to go with the second option.

the new freshwater 65 will either be a "low tech" planted tank - with angels, plant friendly south americans etc, or a semi aggressive tank (filament barbs, sajica cichlids something like that)

not really sure yet. going to bring my school of monos into the LFS this week.

I have enjoyed keeping them over the last decade. they have been great fish.

So what where the symptoms again, just eating then spitting out food again, and "stringy poo"?

You've had them a decade? Nice! It doesn't look too overstocked, but if the waters' cloudy with even light feedings, evidently is. The filament barbs could be nice. I saw awesome fully grown 6 inchers a few weeks ago. I miss mine, but it didn't work with my loaches. Hopefully have more luck, got the 2 tinfoils today, beautiful!
