it was purchased at Big Al's Hamilton, but the price should be pretty consistent across the chain- ask next time you are at a Big Al's.. I paid $40 extra for black silicone.
ok thanks a lot i will talk with big als brampton ( worst bigals in canada imo) if not them then the vaugh one will be my next stop:)

All I can say is wow. Beautiful tank, very interesting thread I started reading sometime this afternoon and now its getting dark. I laughed back around page 35 when somebody posted they just read for two hours and I saw I still had 50 pages to go. I couldn't figure out how you would keep going for another 50 pages with 4 redhooks and 4 lemon barbs. Now I see how. Somewhere through that read you mentioned resealing a tank after 10-15 years. Is there something that caused them to leak? I have had my 150 up for 8 years and it was well used when I got it. Should I be expecting a problem? Thanks for your devotion to your thread, heck of a read.

thanks.

actually I have never had a tank leak. the tanks I had at my parents lasted from the early 90's (the 30 gallons were from about 1990, the larger tanks from 1993 and 1994) all the way to 2008 with no issues.

if a tank is bought new, set up on a good stand, and not drained down and moved, it should go 20 years I would think with no issues.

its when you start draining and filling, letting the silicone go dry etc that you really increase the risk.

with this big tank, just because of its size, I will probably replace at the 15 year mark, just to be extra safe. this much water can potentially do a whole lot of damage..

Okay thanks, I was a little worried about having to reseal my tank. I have done smaller ones in the past but I wouldn't look at resealing a 150 as easy. I do have to move it in the next year or two though. I set it up as a bachelor and now that I have a wife she isn't impressed with its location. So we have been having the conversation for 5 years about where to put it. So eventually I will be moving it, the hot and cold water pipes, the dedicated electrical circuit, the hard pipe drain lines, and all of the equipment (filters and what not) 6 feet across the room. All this after I frame up the floor where it is going like I did 8 years ago. The wife definetely makes this hobby challenging.

Its not that she dislikes the tank. She does get sick of me fiddling with that one and the ones in the basement. She just wants the living room decorated differently. The exposed staircase and banister not blocked by a six foot long five foot high tank.
Guppy tank would be nice though, constant supply of feeders. :)
