Great looking tank. Thought I would chime in since you are thinking about adding a turtle and I have kept many aquatic species over the years...

In all honesty, I would advise against it. It can and has been done but I find it just becomes a hassle from past, personal experience. As stated above, regardless of the species of turtle you will need to provide it with a basking area (a spot where it can get completely out of the water) as well as some form of UVB lighting. You then also risk the chance of having the turtle nip and or eat the fish. Some species are better than others with fish but they all have the potential in seeing them as food. Turtles are also VERY messy and destructive and will add a huge amount to your bioload.

Good luck with whatever you decide and feel free to ask me any questions!

turtles are messy. and don't be surprised if all your fish end up tailless. that's what my aunt's turtles would do, if the fish were too big to eat they made sure they wouldn't be able to swim away.

yeah i've done a good amunt of research and talked to a friend who has a turtle in with his fish, I think it is worth a shot, worst thing that happens is i decide to sell it because it isn't working out

Definitly... sounds cool! I'd really only wonder if it would nip the gars tail... I'd make sure the turtle was the smaller one... the fish won't both him if he can't fit in there mouths I don't think. Make sure you post some pictures when you get him.

I don't know about that.
gars are known for breaking necks and jaws by ramming into the glass when startled. I think a turtle chewing on it's tail might push it over the edge. are you prepared to kill any fish that may get mangled beyond healing?
as far as the current residents, I think a lot more can happen then you just selling it.
I'm not saying don't get it, but are you willing to look at the fish you have now as feeders? aquatic turtles have been hunting fish for millions of years, it's what they do.
