That was a reading with the probe still in the fluid it was shipped in. I think I calibrated it right...now if I stick it in the 7.00 calibration solution it reads 7.01 and if I put it in the 10.00 solution it reads 9.98 so id say its pretty accurate. It now reads 8.2-8.3 in the tank...so I guess my water is hard....lucky me :D

Yep I just checked my tap water and its 8.25 out the tap.

This is the current conditions in the tank...I hooked up my 2nd power block and I am now running 2 lights and one return pump on it. Kinda cool to see the amp draw....

I was worried about that because I never tested my tap water before. So if its calibrated (I think it is) I should be spot on with the PH!

Very nice setup. The MH really enhance the look of the tank.

Do you have ball valves on your plumbing? For maintanence or emergencies, etc. You can also create a little back pressure with a ball valve and get rid of the gurgling and toilet flush noise from the overflow pipes.

I was planning on getting 3M black S grade sand, but couldn't really find it anywhere near me. Not without paying more for shipping than the sand.
I ended up finding a product called Estes Medium Broadcast. It is pretty much the equivalent to 3m S grade. The Estes Medium Broadcast is used for painted or epoxy floor applications. You can find it at any paint wholesaler and probably some retail locations. There are about 15-20 colors to choose from. I found it locally for $0.48 a lb.

Here is a pic of it in my tank. You can really see the grain on the disc of the ray. Each grain is really round and smooth.

I got your PM about it...I will definitely be looking into this stuff. And you said its no rinsing really needed?? Thats a plus since I hear the 3M stuff can turn your hand black washing it lol.

I did more looking at that stuff...I think I am going to try for that over the 3M. I never heard of Estes aquarium sand and this stuff is supposed to be the same right. Very cool....just need to think of who to call around me and see if they can get it.

No ball valves....I shouldn't need any but might add some to the returns if I am getting to much flow. I called about those drains and was told they can take 1200 gph each. Ill have to see what I am getting out ouf my one setup so far.

Typical...no one is open today lol I will have to look on monday for some.

I called the nationial sales rep for Estes and got a number to a place an hr away I might be able to get it from. But once he heard fish tank he was trying to stear me to the aqurium sand stuff they sell. He said that stuff has the waterproofing coating and some other stuff. Are you sure its the same stuf??? I know the stuff made for fishtanks will cost more....but is it safe in the long run??

Hey, I just picked up the same size tank from glasscages and I was wondering If you put styrofoam under the tank?

Everything looks like it's coming along nicely and I'm getting some good ideas from you. Thanks for the build log. I'll be setting mine up for saltwater and It's going to be a room divider for my dining room and living room.

I am using styafoam...I sent you a pM. I look at it sometimes and ask why am I not doing a reef again in this one. Then I think of the cost of the stuff I would need to get and the upkeep and then I remember lol. I had a 110gal reef for 9 years...cant beat the color and diversity...nor the cost of time and $ lol. Are you going to run MH lights?

I haven't done too much lately...mounted lights in the stand and drilled some holes to run my canister hose and wires through. I am waiting on my gravel to arrive...I was hoping for it today but I dont know if it was shiped on time. I ordered 180lbs of Estes Ultra mariene reef sand in black. With shipping its about 1 buck a pound. The place had free shipping on orders of 175 or more but 10$/20lbs handeling fee for gravel or sand to ship. Price of the sand was only like 110 bucks. I also got a Kent Phos/chem reactor and 2 polyfilters :D

There is something living in the tank now...but I didnt put them there! Some sort of Larve I guess...they are white and wiggle like a mosquito larve but they are not that. There are a lot of them...I will try to post pics later. I might hit the tank with some sort of med. to kill them before I add the sand. I was going to do 100% water change anyway since im not doing any cycling stuff right now. A lot of stuff got in the water during setup so im starting fresh...and will do a fishless cycle to speed it up.
