Thx buddy. The maintenance is really getting to me lately tho. Its like as much as i love the tank i despise it lol really wish i put in a drip system
What is a drip system? Did you figure out the nitrate filter? Might be behind on a thread or two.
Bro i still love the maintenance part, its the only time i get to bond with my fish now, when i feed i just make sure the aros and gars get their share then o drop most of the food so my polys can eat have their share too. But i dont get to watch them eat anymore not like i used too, but tham when i see them they always look bigger than before.
Glad you enjoy that part. Sometimes maintance isn't the most enjoying. How are you liking the pumps to get the water out? Would have never thought of that. Had no idea you had an arowana?! Pictures!!!

I like the maintenance on my 55g and beta tank cause it's easy. Not my 6 gal salt though. Mixing water is not fun lol.

Glad to hear from you!

A drip system is like an auto water changer. It dumps a certain amount of water daily and refills that amount. Not sure how to build one but am looking into it for the next tank

Drip system is really simple. You can make it as simple, or elaborate as you feel necessary. The key is putting a bulkhead in your sump tank to drain the added water. The drip itself can be as simple as running a piece of airline tubing from a cold water source directly into the top of your tank. If your on city/chlorine water, you'll have to run it through a carbon filter first. A home filtration system can be purchased for less than $100 on ebay. Another option is to fill a 3 foot section of 3/4" pvc with activated carbon and run your water through that. Replace the carbon every couple months.

Be glad to help. Drips are as essential to a healthy tank as sump filtration is...at least for the monsters we keep. I also added a digital water meter so I can accurately adjust my gpd on my drip. Can really dial it in now. I try it at a certain gpd and test nitrates after 5 days. If it's going up too fast I crank up the drip. Got it dialed in perfect now and if I have to change out a part or whatever on the drip, I can easily dial it right back in. On my big tank 110 gpd seems to do the trick.

How big is the big tank ? The 450 ?

That definitly spounds like someonthing i would want to incorporate (digital water meter) running lines from my water tank is a little intimidating tho.

It's 480 total. You don't run it from the hot water tank. Just splice into a cold water line. The slow stream of cold water won't effect the tank temperature noticeably. Especially if you run the 1/4" air tube the whole way from where you splice in. The room temp will heat the water some before it gets to the tank. Find an easy to access water line and cut it, add a tee, and go from there. What's your house plumbing? Copper, pex, cpvc?
