the filter works excellent...if u look at how mirky the water is when the pollen is in there and then look at the pictures now...the filter did all of that so its working great, wil evetually have to get a bigger pump but its work grettin right now. the trash can is the filter
is it just a sponge on top of all of your media with a bulkhead at the bottom with your pump hooked up to it pumping it back out into the tank? would be efficient for the pump to not have any head to pump if it was all inside the tank.

yes, the blue material is a air filter that i found at walmart for 3 bucks. i ran it in my pool all night before i put it in the pond and then ran it through hose water (pool has had no chlorine in it since last summer) to make sure it left no blue residue as it is blue. i have the pump in a crate type thing and layer of blue air filter, then all the cut up pvc pipe which i plan to as more too, then blue layer, then a layer of a huge roll of filter floss, then to more laers of the blue filter. the pump is inder the crate and the hose hooks straight into the pump and back out into the tank. but last night my dad (im back at school) took the T pvc pipe off and let the hose shoot straight up and it now creates alot of commotion at the top to give air. however i am thinking of adding an airstone or something b/c im still not sure if it is enough oxygen. also i plan to get a stronger pump b/c the pump does not creat the amount of suction that i want (i realize that it is b/c the top of the trashcan is so wide open) but i will get the pump when the funds are available
everything looks good so far. Like others have said i would look into getting the bigger pump
