425 Gallon Pond/Outside Tank Build

you could keep the channel catfish in that tub year round no need to move him elsewhere. My channel catfish just died recently from a stab wound inflicted by another catfish, but was kept in a similar sized pond, and grew to 28" in just 2 years. That would help you when you move your other fish back inside. What's the coldest it gets in your area during the winter? So long as it doesn't freeze the water he'll be fine outside year round.
 
yea i was thinking about doing that. it gets in the low 30s here but i think i could keep enough heat in it so that it wouldnt freeze...
 
Oh yeah, how did you seal up the spigot or whatever that is coming off the side? I have half a 55g drum that I was thinking of using for quarantine or as a feeder tank but it has holes in it for lids that arent water tight.
 
the spigot was done by the company that makes the tank so it is watertight because its a tank ment for storing liquids. however in your case you could find some pvc to thread through the hole in your drum. you would have to have a male and female piece and just glue one into the hole that you thread and screw the other in to seal it. thats how they did this one, the entire piece can screw out with a pipe wrench because its all threaded
 
how many GPH do yo uall think a pump to make a homemade canister type filter needs to be. i guess it needs to be strong enough to pump the water up a pipe and out of the tank and into a container of some sort. so it prolly needs to pump it up 3 feet.
 
im supposed to be getting the pump delivered to my house today. im heading home after class today for the weekend to try and finish this thing up, i will post pics sometime this weekend
 
Sorry I did not see this thread sooner! With average stocking, turning the pond over 4 times and hour should be aquedate, although more would better. We have about 1800 gph on our 400 g pond and I wish we had a little more.
 
haha uh oh...i got 550 pump right now...but i got a month befgore i put fish in it so i have time to get a stronger pump
