ken31cay have your moba & sapphires arrived yet?

I have 19 Moba now with 15 more coming in around 5-6 weeks, and I have 12 sapphires which I'm growing out in my 180gal. The sapphires are about 3 inches but still not big enough to put in with the Moba which are 4"-4.5".

When the Moba first went in to my 750gal I also put in eight 3" Tinfoil Barbs to see if they could act as dithers. Within 3-4 days all that was left of them was about 2/3 of their front sections - the tails and rear third of bodies were bitten off by the Moba. Never saw that before with Moba that small so wasn't expecting it. Hence the reason I'm growing the sapphires bigger before putting them in the tank.

A pack of mobas stealth hunting at night no doubt! You prob know this, but they come out of the depths & feed on cyprichromis in the free water column at night.

I replaced about 2/3 of the bio balls in the main comparment of my sump today with 100 liters of Seachem Pond Matrix. I plan to put the remaining 50 liters in about 4 weeks. I've read all I can about the effects of Pond Matrix decreasing nitrates and my conclusion is that the results are inconclusive; some report it works and other report it makes no difference. I'm doing this in the hopes I have a good result in decreasing nitrates, and if it doesn't then I still would have what I believe is very good bio media.

I went down the rabbit hole of matrix too. I have my 90g sump stuffed with it and removed Fluval Biofx media. It’s been roughly 10 months with zero effects on nitrates.
