90 Gallon Cichlid Tankmates

While it looks like your tank isnt over crowded, your tank will be too small for all that you have when they are larger in about 6 months. If you get more, know that youll have to part with some or do more water changes than you want to (probably).

If it were me, Id enjoy seeing them not overcrowded yet and keep exactly what I have...knowing that Ill still have to eventually get rid of 1 or 2 of the current stock.

True words, and I think deep down I know that once that oscar grows up, that tank is stocked :grinno:

But I'm just impatient for now I think haha, and by get rid of one or 2 of the current stock, do you mean the dollars or the firemouth or the pike?

In my opinion, you could add a couple more fish just cause theyre all small still, and then whichever ones you like the most, or are the least troublesome, you keep. I can tell you from experience the pikes are usually very very nasty, if i were in your shoes id get rid of him and then get yourself the GT and EBJD

Are you advocating the GT if I removed the pike? I'm not trying to bend what you say to make it work for me at all, I'm just trying to make sure I'm reading what you say correctly :)

And how does everyone feel about the attitude of the belly crawler? (medium sized species maxing around 7-8")

I know the feeling and Im not opposed to the idea of having more knowing that youll have to weed some out. Ive done that with every scenario in most all of my tanks. It gives you the option to see whos compatible etc. and it gives lots of action in the tank...especially species interaction.

I think any of them could go, but yea, the SDs more than anything, but thats just a personal preference. I like clown loaches as dithers better. SDs always spooked real easy for me and would smack the lids, sides etc if you didnt walk up to the tank at .00001 mph.

That being said, if it were me, Id have the salvini, Firemouth, texas and pike, with the SDs as dithers (if theyre the only option for dithers) until they got bigger...or if the pike is aggressive, wait to put him in until the others are closer to 3 inches

haha...thats how I feel about EBJDS & GTs. Too many health issues to contend with compared to all the other fish out there. Hospital tanks are for emergencies, not permanent new homes for weak immune system fish!:naughty:

Problem is I've fallen in love with my little oscar, he's my baby lol... I'd love a texas but I know that in a 90 long term that that would neverrrr work out...

And you are SOOOO right about the SDs, sadly they always do that with me! and If I touch the lid, they FREAK...

I'd love to do the clown loaches, I just worry that the pike would bully them since they're also bottom feeders. I was thinking maybe giant danios, but they don't really fit the continent idea (SA/CA), but I want a dither that fits the region that isn't so skiddish lol... (suggestions?)

A bit scatter-brained there sorry

But yeah, I'd like to keep the cichlids I have in the 90, so if you have any ideas for a bit more confident of a dither fish, or a substitution for a fish in my cichlids (I'd like to keep the 3 ideally) then I'm all for it, but if you think it's fully stocked then please tell me :) I'm just trying to weigh my options
