? about the diy overflow

it was painful to watch me and my gf figure this out...

seriously... it took like 3 hours till we finally got it and then a whole 5 minutes to build it...

also... my pump is way oversized... im going to the store now...

For the love of all things natural someone please explain the point of the red :confused::confused:

After hours of pondering all I can assume is this:
- cap off the red uptube and you build a closed syphon. GL keeping this running as gravity takes over and it sucks water faster than the pump is replacing it.
- shorten the uptube to below the water level in the tank and risk a good ol fashioned mopping. This would be most likely if you used to small diameter of pvc.

How's my physics?

its to let the gurgling noise out
its a vent,lets air out,lets air in,to flow more
thats my guess
:D

How much will the diameter of the pvc alter the effect of the overflow? And what is the best way to fine tune the drain to the sump, and tune the flow back to the tank? I'm guessing a standard adjusting valve would suffice.

Got a trivial question, I just finished painting my overflow with Satin Black Krylon Fusion Paint. The question is how long do I let the paint cure? The paint instruction says that it dries in 10 minutes.

Would you guys say that it should be safe for me to immerse the pvc pipes in the tank tomorrow afternoon?
Thank you.

Drying and curing are very different. Let it cure for at least 24 hrs before committing it to underwater use.
