It's my understanding (I never kept them) A. stalsbergi is more aggressive then Aequidens rivulatus the common Gold Saum, all of which I have kept have been fairly mild in temperament. As you know I have 4 Aequidens diadema sp. Jenaro Herrera due to arrive today. Both stalsbergi and sp. JH are beautiful fish, I personally feel the JH to be better looking perhaps somewhat smaller and perfect for a 90 gallon set up for grow outs and then hopefully for a pair. I can't say anything about which will sell better, selling fry is always a crap shoot and I never consider salability when deciding on a breeding project because very few people are interested in the fish I like to breed. I tried like hell to push Krobia Xinguensis and despite my thinking they are arguably one the most interesting and striking acaras South America has to offer there was still little interest. It seems there are not that many aficionados of SA's most like the aggression of the bigger CA's. I just give fry away to any MFK'er that wants to come get them or end up using them as feeders, which always saddens me.

Perhaps the stalsbergi, which really has little appeal to me might sell better based on them being more well known and one of the "hot newer fish" out there (remember the Umbi, Festae craze which thankfully seems to have died out a bit). Most casual to intermediate hobbyist may not even know what a jewel the JH really is. I’m excited to be able to get them and can’t wait to see them grow out. MY .02
Edited: I think I am going to go with the Jenaro Herrera. Aquanero, we will have to compare notes for both the JH and the metae. :)

Just got an email back from Alf Stalsberg hearing all the things I didn't want to hear. LOL

Looks like you've made your decision, but I just wanted to chime in here.

I have 4 Aequidens metae I ordered from rapps back in november. I got them quite small, 1.5 - 2inches but they have blown up since. For a medium sized cichlid they are growing super fast. Right now I'd say they are all right around 3.5 inches and fat. Super active and curious fish. Always at the front of the tank when I come to feed, but not overly aggressive. I keep angels and small tetras with them. I really like the color they have too. The male(?) has some really bright yellow coloration and the irridescent blue in their faces seems to intensify as they mature as well. I highly recommend these fish if you are a SA fan.

I also got four Krobia xinguensis in that same order. Not much to report on them yet as they seem to be pretty slow grower comparatively. I got the krobia in at an inch, no larger - very very small and although I can tell they have grown, it hasn't been much. They are probably around 1.5 inches now. They are still so small that they are also very shy. Hoping that they fatten up a bit and show me some personality!

The Krobia XO are slow growers and slow to mature. Mine were over 1.5 years old before they showed any interest in breeding.

Keep the faith they are worth the wate. Their colors are beautiful and their breeding colors are amazing.

I made up my mind earlier today to raise metae and Jenaro Herrera until I got an email back from Rapps saying his metae can hit 10" while the 'JH' only reach 8"!! If that is true, I will be getting A. stalsbergi and A. 'Jenaro Herrera'.

I know I have asked this before, but do metae really only reach 5-6"? I have seen video labeled as metae that look pretty big (8"+). Is Rapps thinking of a different species or is it possible they get that big?
