Here's the video of moving the arapaima from holding to the main display. I'm the short guy who tosses the blanket and lands on him - and the last one into the water as we release him. Yes, that is me grunting when he hits my chest while trying to subdue him.

That video is amazing! :headbang2

That video was fun....'Pima looks very happy in there....well done! And you moved him without tranquilizers? How on earth did you move a 4 foot 'Pima wide awake..??! After all your posts about the difficulty of moving them, that seemed to go like a dream. That fish must trust you! And I love the comment you made about him hanging on your shoulder when you clean the tunnel...that must be funny! Great stuff man. Did the TV crews like it?

I think we freaked them out a little. The first blanket toss, one of theother staff members was out of position, and the fish tweaked and almost took out all three of us. That fish has definitly shown a strong bond to specific staff. (Some he hates with a passion for some reason.) He did pop a tiger shovelnose and a few silver dollars.....but he has stopped that and is eating from the surface now. I'm still working to get him to eat from my hand again, like he did in holding.

Great job matt hope everything works out ok........post some pics of the gigas and the rest of the tank.........

More pics (even a Pike for Peanut to see!)

Arapaima looks so small in the shot with him on the other end of the tank. It gives you a good feel for how big 145,000 gallons is....a fish over 4 1/2 feet looks TINY. A shot of the other fish, some black pacu (50-60 lb fish and you can see the arapaima yawning in the background) and two of our three water cows (those are hard to find to get pics of!)

Enjoy!

It really gives u a feeling how big that tank is! :D

I have to ask the obvious question...How do you prevent predation in this awsome display without over feeding the predators?
Also how will you prevent the population of little ones from getting out of control? Or is observing predation behaviour part of the master plan?
....muhahahahahahaha!
