Amazon Project starts (pics)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Update for today is that at 2PM (Local time) I've gotta get in and catch 2 small (by small I mean about 16-18") tiger shovels that we are sending to another facility in trade for some salt water goodies.

Watch that camera and laugh while I try to swim better than a fish. It should be interesting.

As for other stuff, the arapaima is quickly learning what spot I stand in to feed him from the surface. Sadly, the pacu have figured that out, too. He is still a little timid around me while I'm in the water, but he will swim right next to me. Everyone else is doing well. We're seeing all sorts of breeding, including another round of midas fry this week.

Any pics of your Midas fry and juvies..?? You must have hundreds now!

Probably somewhere between 800-900 of them. I'll have to take some and post them. There is another batch still in the tank that I haven't even pulled out yet.

Nice, thanks for the updates. Hey what days and times to you hand feed the fish?

hahaahahaha, Trust, you know you just want to see them in there. I don't blame you though, they would look awesome in a small pack, especially when they get huge

But it's true. I mean yea I'd like to see them in there but I think the cichlid popultaion in there will explode if they don't have other bigger and faster predators in there to eat them.

I say add Temensis and other types of Peacock Bass, Add some Dorado and Brycons in there too.

I passed on a bunch of free brycon from Newport Aquarium.

As for the fry, there are plenty of small cichlids in there to feed on them.

Hand feeding is Monday and Friday at 2PM (I'm off Fridays, so HOPEFULLY someone remembers to dive). Other than that, I do it when I have time. We do morning broadcast feeds from the surface above the webcam in the AM usually between 7:30 and 8 AM.

Why'd u pass on them???? they would have been cool to see swimming around.

I know u mentioned the pbass being agressive is it because you guys think it might be bad for kids to see a smaller fish stuck in the pbass mouth?

I'm all for the peacocks. My boss isn't. I've had a lot of success switching them to prepared food.
As for the Brycon - some things just don't do well in situtions like this. The group of brycon we could have picked up for free were all pulled from their exhibit b/c they were beating up everything. Having the pacu in there pushing other fish around is bad enough.
