^ thanks and Nice analogy... But yeah, its not so much the hassle atm, but more curiosity of will it work thats got me thinking... I like to experiment a little bit so want to see if i can pull this off or not?

But If say after 2/3 weeks it just gets progressively worse with no new growths, i'll probably give in and buy a Co2 injection unit...

^ thanks :)

Atm, its the carpet thats going to be my main concern since the guy did tell me this type of carpet really should have Co2 to grow well, so will see how it goes...

What do you guys think of doing a water change just to get rid of access nutrients from the water? Good idea / bad idea?

Or should i just buy some temporary fast growing plants to suck them up instead?

I would just get more plants:D

Yeah...the HC will probably need CO2. Since you have a deeper tank than a Nano, I don't think you can get a carpet without CO2. Since I stop using CO2 a few months ago, the HC is there...not growing nor dying and I keep the light on 4 hours a day, but my tank is also next to the window.

Thanks for the info...

Yeah that was what i was kinda worried about... So will see how the HC goes for another week... If it starts to melt i'll take that as a sign...

Hopefully today after work i'll have some time to drop by fish street since i have a meeting some what near by... Then it'll be time to pick up some more plants and maybe a few shrimp...

^ Thanks... yeah, i'm thinking as much as i don't want to, i might buy a bunch of water lettuce or something and place it in a floating net box to prevent it from escaping every where in the tank... since i know that stuff can grow like wild fire and should do a pretty good job sucking up the extra nutrients while keeping everything in check...

Can any one recommend some fast growing plants that dont need co2 or to be physically planted?

Im asking coz im thinking of possibly getting some just to suck up the extra nutrients and to prevent chances of algae forming as easily...

Water sprite (Ceratopteris thalictroides) grows very fast to help soak up extra nutrients and can be left floating. I read somewhere on the forum that since its floating that it can soak up CO2 from the air.

I don't have much experience with planted tanks but wouldn't it be cheaper in the long run to setup CO2 then dosing a 60gal with excel everyday?

If you're looking for a easier carpet plant I suggest Echinodorus Tenellus (pygmy chain sword). I had a low tech setup with DIY CO2 and a couple compact fluorescent and grew a carpet very easily, especially for a noob like me.

Loved how you incorporated the golden ratio to your aquascape by the way. Looking forward to the updates. Subscribed
