I'm still getting the Xingu used to the tank and all, so Im just gonna leave the substrate be for now, then in a couple months Ill change it to something of more color. The fish likes the tank and has a favorite spot behind a big rock. Pics seem small taken with cell and most of the time if I get too close to the tank the fish moves to behind the rock. Better pics will come when the fish is more comfortable with humans approcahing the tank and staying out in the open which is why patience of pics isnt liked but needed.

or you can stay far away from the tank and just get a big ass zoom lens :)

Yeah I zoomed in on the gibbus, manueli, and Peru rhom photos I posted in this thread and some clown complained I wasn't showing the rest of the tank enough, go figure lol

lol u know what you gotta do, post a full tank show then mad pics of the fish in close up ;)

By the way I had a fish with some finrot(when purchased) and I treated it with mardel's maracyn two and it worked great. The fish totally healed like new in 4 days. Just thought I'd add this in case anyone else gets a fish with the same problem.

for substrate I use mainly gravel, dark color gravels. but many people have used black sand or 3M color quartz and had great results. you can use the same if you like.
I used the all purpose gravel from lowes in my 180g square tank, it's pretty unique, it's dark but not too dark like black gravel. you can check it out if you like, click here. pretty cheap, just needs a lot of wash. I bought 200lbs for the square tank and spent 6 hrs washing them...back breaking 6 hrs. lol

yea shipping will cause stress on fish and they may end up with finrot and stuff. it's good to hear it's doing well.. maracyn also works well for popeye.

Lol that looks like the bags I used to patch my driveway. I seen some tanks with what looks to be woodchips on the bottom. You know what I'm talking about or have you ever tried using it as substrate?

Probably its the same type of gravel :) but it works and is cheap :)
200lbs for less than 15 bucks
I've never seen those wood chip substrates..think it gonna be a mess.
