Arapaima Gigas and tank mates??

Arapaima are just one of those fish that shouldn't be kept in captivity in my opinion... Although, it is my #1 "If I was rich" fish.
Personally, I think 4-6,000 gallons would be ok if it was raised in that tank its whole life and it was the only fish in there, but if you seriously want the fish then I'd say you should aim for no lower than 8-10,000g

Pretty sure this is a joke... first off no way you found an Arapaima for $50. Second, there's no chance that you could ACTUALLY get a tank big enough for one. A 300 gallon tank would be outgrown in a year.:grinno:

False my lfs sells 6" pimas for $50 if you preorder. $100If you dont.

Wow, don't worry people, soon you'll be able to catch paima in some river near you because with prices like that, they're bond to end up in them. Well at least they don't multiply like snakeheads. Imagine the carnage an outbreak of full sized paima's could do to your rivers eco systems. Nice right?

No it wont be as bad as snakeheads but pimas are huge predators and can destroy an eco system

I could see a 2" datnoid in a 30g, but the paima, with proper care should be growing 2-3" a month, his tank will last 2 weeks.
