I'm thinking about getting some one day but has anyone ever injected their axolotl with iodine, or successfully metamorphose their axolotl into.......well i guess some sort of faux salamander? Or cut off it's leg and watched another grow back?



I don't suggest the torture of your axolotl but i just wanted to know :D

I have been thinking of getting some Axolotl as well. I think it's Thyroxine they inject them with to get them to metamorphose. As far as cutting off limbs, they do it in high-school biology courses pretty regularly, but I wouldn't do it for fun... :)
 
I'd like to get an axolotl too....maybe once my beardie has been upgraded and his tank is empty. In my high school bio class, the teacher got a really little axolotl for us to look at and then just dumped him down the sink when she was done! I was so mad. I would have bought him off of her, or just taken him-especially if I knew she was going to do that!
 
crazy the poor things! I've been reading they get harrased alot but alot of people poking them and trying to make them "evolve" like some kind of pokemon lol

I'd just get a couple and leave them as they are......they remind me of the dinosaur from rugrats

That's upsetting!!! I would have taken it too. They're probably the coolest salamander species on earth!
 
I have one. They're pretty cool. Mine is Leucistic(all white with black eyes).
 
People need to accept animals like they are;) And this ones have litle defects in therms of pet potencial, very hardy, unusual, lots of color morphs and a large longevity:D
 
Yeah, I really want one or a group. I used to have a "water dog" and he was awesome. I could hand feed him and when I put my hand in the water, he would climb up into my palm. I'd assume an axolotl would be similar
 
Not exactly, they can be trained to be hand fed, but I don't know about crawling into your palm.
