Axolotl

They don't seem to be common atall where I live I haven't seen one ..?
 
they are quite a common thing.....due to the fact they are so hardy....pratically made up of stem-cells. They do need a specific tank setup though which is why most money grabbing LFS don't sell them....

but the cool ones get them in every now and again.

I've very rarely seen them around here too, but at least in the states, there are many science supply companies that sell them. I even found one that has mud puppies too. I've never seen them for sale around here
 
i'm starting to feel sorry for them :( they get used for not nice things eh.....and how much of the axolotl research is viable? i'm guessing very little

Axolotls are not as important in primary research as they once were, but a lot of major discoveries about development have been made using axolotls and other ambystomatid salamanders as the models.
 
In fact they kind of were saved from extincion because of that and the pet hobby;)
 
Yep! Their native lakes are now mostly polluted or filled as a consequence of the growth of Mexico City.
