Axolotl

In my undergrad, a few students worked with axo's. They did different experiments with their limb regeneration, so I have seen ones with regenerated limbs, ones that have grown back deformed and such. They also were successful in re-attaching the limbs to the axo's. This research is very viable, in that they're trying to find new ways to re-attach limbs on these animals so that it might be translated to humans. There were several hundred of them in our labs. Unfortunately, they were housed in very small enclosures. Once in a while the professor would give students the axo's as pets when they'd gotten bigger or they were done with them.

I think they're amazing critters, I wish I'd had room for one when she was giving them out!!

gonna throw one of my stories out there on how friggen amazing these animals are.
back when i was 20 i had 3 of these, 2 albino and 1 male, all about 8 inches. they loved to just float and watch everything. awsome. i loved them.
one time one lost a limb due to fighting w/ eachother (had their own 55 g to them selfs) and it grew back. non big deal i expected that

well one day the power went at my house. in january. my power company informed me that there would be no powr for a week. i had to trasport 12 fishtank of fish to 6 fish tanks set up at my moms. the axoltis got put in a tank with some fish and somehow one of my albinos head was gone up to his gills. he still was moving though. i put all axolts in a 20 g l until i got them back to 55. and 4 months later you couldn't even tell he was missing his face. crazy firggen animals. frank herbet was pretty smart with the axolt tank ideas (dune's writer).

I have been looking into getting one but I cant find them anywhere around where I live.

Did they fight ? I ask as read they dont do well if more than 1 per tank.

Please please please do not ever force one of these little guys to metermorphose into a terrestrial axolotls. The chances of it being successful is very small. Most likely, you'll just end up with a very dead axy. Not worth the risk.
