Sensitivity with this rod may be an issue as it is rated for larger fish, catching smaller fish with it may be a challenge, but who wants to catch smaller fish anyways?

yes. and if you're interested in fishing for each with a different rod they also make an ugly stik striper version which i own, great backbone but also sensitive. a little lighter than the catfish series but if you're targeting stripers/lmb with live bait it would be a good choice.
I wouldn't use the Ugly cat for bass, too stiff and I like to fight my LMB especially considering their smaller average size. The Ugly striper is a medium action and could be used for both, but the high end catfish are really going to make that rod work as well as big stripers and could potentially break it (although I doubt a fish can ever break an Ugly). Don't expect one rod to handle all of those fish equally. Get a couple, they are cheap enough.
I run 30 pound mono on my Ugly cats, which is what its rated to, but they do handle heavier line just fine. On the Ugly Tigers, they are rated much higher and 50-60 would be fine. If you want to use braided line, there is really no limit to the size of the line since the diameter is so small.
would 20 pound test work for 20-40 pound fish as well as bigger or do i have to use 30 to 50 pound test?
