I posted to differnt types of food and the way to make it, in the frist part of this tread. There's boiled egg ylk and live brine shrimp. Thos are to really great ways of getting great protain to the fry and helpig to grow faster.
Fish-morger the water temp and water doesn't contral sex of fry the father does, When he fertlizes the eggs he almost predetermans the sex. almost now if yoU let the fry liVe in super bad water i mean super bad water for 6 weeks or more where the reprodutive orgains of the femles can get infected then they will turn into males and beable to sppawn and reproduce fry. But that's only if you neglect the water for weeks at a time.

Glad to know that there is interest in betta breeding here. I breed betta regularly and really enjoy doing so. I sometimes sell the fish I breed on the net.
On PH and gender of fries: the lower the PH, the more males you will get (use Indian Almond Leaves to lower PH). This has been proven by research. The reason this happens has something to do with the viability of sperm cells at different PH. Apparently sperm cells that produce males are more vigourous under lower PH.
Egg yolk may not be the best fries food unless your breeding tank is huge... because of the potential of fouling the water. High mortality rate for betta fries is almost always due to poor water quality.
For the first 3 or 4 days the fries should be feeding on infusoria (occurs naturally so long as you have water plants in your tank). After that make use of daphnia, freshly hatched brine shrimps or microworms. Feed microworms only for up to a week, after that move to daphnia or brine shrimp. On the second week, you can try tubifex worms.

You should feed the fry with microworms then after two weeks start to feed a mix of bbs and microwarms. The pH should be around 6.5 to 7.0 and the temp should be around 82 F.
Keep the fry tank covered, when the fry are young they can destroy their air breathing organs if the air is too cold, I always covered my breeding tank with saran wrap.
The female will get light stripes on her when she is ripe.
