I love wels. If I ever win the lottery and get to build a house with a glass viewing wall against a pond/lake, I'm definitely getting a spawning pair.

yes it is proven.
The Arapaima gets a length till 2,5 meters and a weight of 200 Kg

The biggest recorded Waller was catched in the 19th century here in the river Oder and was 5 meters in length and 426Kg in weight. Thats almost double as big as the biggest Arapaima. But such a giant is very rare. The biggest Waller catched here near my city was 3 years ago. He was 2,78 m long, thats still bigger, than the biggest Araparima.

its latin name is Silurus glanis

Very nice fish that I would love to catch someday. I thought sturgeon were the largest freshwater fish though. I know the white sturgeon found in North America isn't ther largets but they grow to ~20ft and over 1600lbs.

sturgeons can indeed get bigger. In germany we had 7m giants that weight almost as much as a car. But they are not considered fresh water fish because they go in the ocean to breed.

Wallago leerii look similar but have a deeper/heavier body.

Here is mine at around 5 feet long

By the way the fishing/tackle world record of a Wels catfish is 250lbs. Caught in 2010. Beating the old record by 8 lbs set in 2009.
