funny you talk about "reports" of 5m Arapaimas and by the Waller you say there is no evidence for that reports. hilarious
until I can see at least a picture of one that big then I believe it. reports about Arapaima over 5m had never been confirm as well as those 5m wels cat you said. Scientist never confirm any fish record on 19th century because people can exaggerated and there had been some rumors of people caught fish up to 5m but when they see the real fish it become sturgeon!
and you can't even prove that wels catfish can grow larger than Arapaima, you just saying that!

i can prove it. It stands even in wikipedia. Beside that, you seem to be a bit too weird about that topic. I better end that discussion, before you threaten my family ha ha

there are a lot of things that you cannot believe in Wikipedia, because people can write whatever they want in there. Beside, this is from Wikipedia: "These reports, however, cannot be validated today for lack of physical evidence. Another point which makes these data unreliable is the abnormal length-weight-relation, a typical trait of big-fish-stories. A wels of 3 m (9.8 ft) would weigh much less, around 150 kg (330 lb), whereas a hypothetical specimen of 5 m (16 ft) would theoretically weigh about 700 kg (1,500 lb) or more"

and what do you mean threaten your family.
sorry if I'm flaming too much, but when it come to science I can be rude sometime!

well that is a cool big catfish but my favorite river monster so far is that freakin' huge stingray he caught that spit out 2 pups that were quite large on their own.

wels, really bothered me they had the guy who moved them into spain where they are a menace

Are they schooling fish? I want ten!

Waller? Is'nt it called wells?

Surprised no one has mentioned the Mekong catfish has been caught at nearly 9ft (2.7M) and weighing over 646lb I make that bigger than both the wells and the Arapaimas certainly on weight. As far as I am aware the largest wells caught in europe is around 250lb from the ebro in spain although the Po in Italy is also capable of producing fish of simlilar size. There have been some reprts of Russian fisherman catching far bigger wells in nets,in the region of 12ft and close on 500lb but how true this is but I would certainly not completely dicount it.
