brachyplatystoma filamentosum Grow out thread.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nah his fish is filamentosum. Spots smaller than or comparable to the eye which are more dense posteriorly define fila, spots 2x or larger the size of the eye and evenly distributed define capa. The mouths on the two are quite different as well.

Capapretum at this size class:

Lol that became obvious as it grew off of the shape of the fish. That was just my initial impression but thanks for the reminder on how to ID

Rpul Rpul gotten the Suriname beauty yet? Haha Curious to see how it looks at a small size. I have a friend who can get me one, but dont have pictures yet at the moment.

Was suppose to have him Wednesday but I’ve had to push it back due to needing to move a few bits around in the fish room and get another pond up and running. Ended up having to rescue my old rtc back and he’s pretty large now so I have no where for the piriba till I’ve moved him out the main pond. But my friend is happy to wait for me till I’m sorted this week.

How big are your soon to be Suriname josh? Any detailed description said Suriname, pictures even?
I have a picture of one of the Surinam that came in on that shipment, I’ll will attach it.

Currently the Peruvian piriba is now gorging itself on pellets and mussles. Whiskers are coming back and all fins healed. Phew, glad its sorted now and growing again.

Also, I have one more very special cat coming this week, off a friend, and it’s big and very rare. I’ll do a thread when she arrives Thursday evening.

Any possibility of getting more pictures of the Suriname (preferably with a shot at the head area)? Wanna use as reference once my friend gets a pic of his

Wooo! definitely suriname. Be careful of those mussels, since Tigrinus can get thiaminase from those, it is possible that other Brachyplatystoma sp have reactions towards crustaceans also.

That’s nice despite not being the best pic lol. I’d agree it is indeed the real thing

I couldnt find the post, but is it safe to say that the spotting of a Suriname, going all the way to the pectoral fin, is a distinct feature/difference in comparison to a Peruvian or Brazilian Fila?

Feel like I noticed that as well... but not sure if it’s definitive.
