ive been thinking of doing a all concrete pond for a while now
are you going to leave the floor just the ground floor? or are you going to put blocks or bricks down there?

Hi wizzin, I've got one other question about using Sanitred. Where your PVC overflow enters the tank did you just paint over the cement-PVC junction or did you need to prepare the PVC in any way? I saw that you had to paint the glass with epoxy paint to get the Sanitred products to bond to it. The reason I'm curious is that I will be using a swimming pool filter with one of those rectangular swimming pool overflows and I'm worried about the relatively long junction to seal. Thanks

I actually haven't done that yet. I wanted to fill that core today actually, but I've got to go to work again. I worked all day yesterday (job work, not tank work). It sucks, but at least i get overtime pay!! Should cover the rest of the items I have to purchase.

I was going to fill the concrete block core where the overflow pipe is with concrete while the pvc is in place. Then just smear permaflex and LRB all around the joint. I tested permaflex and lrb on raw pvc, and it does NOT come off. I think those pool skimmer boxes are pvc? Shouldn't have a problem there.

Thanks again for your reply. Yes, the pool skimmer box is definitely PVC. Having seen you use the Sanitred I'm leaning towards using it myself.

Good luck with finishing your tank. Work always sucks, but no work means no money for hobbies!

Thanks. Honestly, I am a total fish nut. Not just keeping, but everything about fish. Always have been, since I can remember. I attribute it to my dad taking me fishing as soon as I was big enough to walk! I've always been drawn to water, and fish. I remember as a kid going to auctions with my dad, and there were always little creeks around (or at least I found them) and I spent the entire time playing in the water. Used to build dams in the stream next to my house growing up, and stocked them with trout. In the book and movie "A River Runs Through It", theres a quote at the end that goes: "I am haunted by waters". That's me.

This tank has been a dream since I can remember. I always wanted to build one at my mom/dad's house, but could never afford or was allowed to. Now that I'm grown up  and have a place of my own, it's "game on".
