Sorry for the loss of such a good looking fish.
just one question what is the biggest fish you have and what is the size?
If you dont mind me asking

Yes, it really hurts to lose a fish like him.

The biggest fish I've ever had was my Arapaima Gigas that was killed by my black shark in 2004. She was 5'6" long and weighed 126lbs. My longest fish at present is a A. gigas (Nanuk2) who is 3 years 6 months old and about 5' long and about 100 lbs. Her roommate (Sedna) is about 2 inches shorter with a slimmer build and about 95lbs. My Wallago leeri is also in that weight area.

i am new to MFK and enjoying monster fish, which is fairly limited in Australia but as you must know nothing is impossible! I want to thank you for sharing what must be a big part of yourself with everyone. i have read from start to finish and i am extremely impressed with with your set-up and how you follow your dreams, not to mention your patience and humility (i wish i got called a god so many times!) i am curious if you own a snakehead in any of your tanks? a friend of mine owns one and it is an absolute terror! my favorite story was the one about your dovii in the 15k and the pics of him were awesome, he certainly looks like the terror you described! i am yet to read the other article about your 15k but i hope there are more stories about that beast. Thanks again for the inspiration!

Thanks for the kind words and welcome to MFK.

There is a very good core of hobbyists on this site and they are nice to me and the other article, forum and picture thread starters.

I have had snakeheads but they are illegal now unless you grandfather clause them where I live. My largest redlines were very close to 40" and I agree with you and your friend they are terrors. Bite first ask questions later.

The Dovii is cool, he is getting quite old and shrinking now, but to see him rip into a shoal of 24" brycons etc and send them scattering is still nice to see. He will attack any of the other fish threatening the red devil's babies and will not hesitate to chase any of the arawanas. The big cats don't even come within 6' of him when he is in security mode.

What big fish do you keep?

your tanks are awesome!!! Something to strive for in the future when i have money to put at it. right now my 100g tank is all i can afford i had to shut down my 40g when laid off. But that is amazing. Then only thing I have seen better is when a friend of mine was interning and teh Shedd Aquarium in Chicago and let me come and visit behind the seens it was spectacular!

Thank you for the kind words.

Very sorry you are laid off and hope you get back soon.

I agree the Shedd is a fantastic Aquarium and they have a very dedicated and knowledgeable staff.

I was there in August 2008 and attended the Stingray Symposium. At my presentation I asked the audience who where members of MFK and at least 75% raised their hands.
Todd (2500 gallon stingray tank) helped with my technical assistance and Neoprodigy the creator of MFK was seated beside me in the conference room we used for the SS in the Shedd Aq.........It was fantastic.

Here is a picture taken by DAve Unruh in the fall of 2007. Nemisis2 was about 4 foot at the time and just turned 2 years old. I will try and upload some other pictures of her also taken that year. She and Sedna are still alive around 5 feet long and doing very well, I just never got any good pictures of them since then.

A snowfall of 25 cm in the last 24 hours has affected the speed of my server and I have had trouble loading pictures to MFK. So if I don't send anymore today that is the reason.

Hi arapaimag, thanks for the reply. i currently own one juvenile dovii (approximately 6inches) with two very nervous bristlenose in a 100 gallon tank. i did own an oscar and a jag which used to fight constantly as they grew up but the jag started to get the better of him so i gave the oscar to a friend. then another friend wanted to swap the jag for a dovii which i accepted readily even though my jag was a much more striking fish. the dovii is a bit shy until you put feeders or anything else in there. i put a 6cm gibbicep and a friends red texan(aprox 9 inches) to try and divert him away from the gibby but we had to take the texan out within half an hour as he would not stop harrassing it and the next morning the gibby was gone! i only own the one tank for now but it won't be too long and i will have two more much larger tanks, i am thinking in the 200 gallon range for an all Australian set-up(saratoga, grunters, sleepy cod, etc) and the other for my dovii. this is definitely becoming an addiction and space will be a problem (short term) but i don't think i can stop!
