Thanks Jonathan,

Great getting the phone call from you yesterday buddy. I have had success with GE1200 silicone and hope your friend you mentioned does also with his tank.

Thanks for the update on your list of 20" plus fish. Which when considering you also have a 480 gallon or larger tank does give official monster fish keeper status. The hundreds of pictures and videos you have placed on the many sites have confirmed everything you have said about your fish and the size of your tank.

I would really appreciate it if you would place a few pics of your 1500 on this thread and also a link to the best of your 1500 videos.

Since you are a Cichlid enthusiast the questions are:

Are you going to raise any of the 5 big cichlids genus (Capable of achieving 20" plus) in your 1500 gallon tank? Not rescued that size but actually raise them to that size

Now the next question is what 5 am I thinking about?

Please give me your idea of the 5 I am thinking about. (I have raised 4 of the genus to 20" or more myself and have failed miserably on the 5th but have seen one at an ACA at a tl of 24".

Please get back to me with your answer.

I also request and welcome any viewers so inclined to please also give me your idea of the 5 cichlid genus/species I am thinking of or other genus/species you feel belong in the 20" cichlid monster club. Also please mention which ones you have raised to 20". Also we are going with Total Length not Standard Length.

This is not the scientific method but the size method 99% of the people on this site appear to use, myself included.

I will give my list of five only after my friend Jonathan answers with his list to see how close we are. Jonathan is a very accomplished cichlid keeper and breeder and a very active member on cichlid and catfish sites. He has built an 800 gallon plywood tank and then expanded it to a 1500 gallon tank. The fact that he is a carpenter by trade and built like an NFL middle linebacker sure helps.

This was the reply to one of your emails last week.

Basically I wanted your list of 5 cichlids that could max out at over 20"

and a few pics of your new 1500 and a video link on this thread so MFK members who have not seen it can.

thanks

Have you seen Taikoro's videos of rays breeding and later giving birth?

what page is the last update of the tank? i can't find it =[

You get these fish in captivity, right?

Because the Tucunarés caught in Nature are almost impossible to eat pellets...

Or you had so much lucky!!!

Vary the feeding with of other fish fillet is very good, because their nutrition is completely full. Mainly with marine fish!!!

When I had my own, tried to make him eat pellets but, did not. I was not upset, because see a Tucunaré hunting is fantastic: it selects a prey in the middle of group and go behind this fish.

About the P. ornatipinnis, is the most beautiful of the genus Polypterus, but is larger and more aggressive, which would be a problem at the time of forming the couple, as one could eat the other. That's why I chose the P. senegalus, since it is more quiet and small.

The Lungfish are fabulous!!!

Especially the Australian. They are primitive fish that gave rise to the first animals to leave the water and walk the earth, (Class Sarcopterygii), as Celacantho (Latimeria chalumnae). The fins of them function as a primitive foot.

My favorites are the first freshwater primitive fish, such as Polypterus and Lungfish ...

About your Tucunaré, will be hard because he is in the juvenile stage, presenting both juvenile features (spots) and adult (black bands). But I realy believe that is a C. temensis. Well, the problem it is most similar to C. pinima and C. vazzoleri too. Besides the other photos that I have before...

HUAHUAHUA

This picture is a C. temensis. Well looks like yours, right?

Already on the Eels, it is common for them enter in pipes on tanks, because in nature they live among the rocks.

Wow, I don't know how I missed that post... Wierd... Well, it seems my boss has slept in and didn't realize it was raining... So I was turned around to come back home to sit and wait to see what happens in the next hour with the rain...

To answer your questions... No, I really don't plan on keeping anything cichlid wise that grows so large. The largest species I have are 2 bocourti (16", but 11" now) 3 managuense (16-18 inches but 10" now) and a few from the vieja/paratheraps family.

I have rescued a couple of cichla species but moved them quickly as they are a "wanted". Dovi and Umbee I'm a little afraid of LOL Some day though, as they're both beautiful fish and their aggressive nature puts them in a class of their own!

On a side note, of all the large aggressive cichlids I have I've got a little 5" firemouth that defends his territory quite well against the 8 midas in the tank and the festae! Funny thing is he chose to set up his territory right smack dab in the middle of the tank LOL.

Here's a few videos of the tank.

This is one of Bert after he was introduced to the 1500:
