I notice you have a

- Panaque Suttoni - How big is it??

- Tilapia Buttekofferi - They very big??

- Any nice Festae's??
The Panaque suttoni is now Panaque suttonorum.

I bought mine as Panaque suttoni in 1993 from Maraine Resources (Sean Wilson) when he was operating out of Tropic Aquaria in Brampton Ontario.
I bought it at 3" for $20.00. This was before the wicked price increases that followed and put them into the many hundred of dollars range.

It died in 2004 and was about 10" long at the time. If it was listed as a current fish on my last list it was incorrect...sorry.

However according to Planet Catfish the fish is now identified as Panaque cochliodon and has been sold by mistake as Panaque suttoni and Panaque suttonorum in the past. It appears that "P. suttonorum is restricted to the Lake Maracaibo basin and virtually no aquarium fishes are exported from there".

Tilapia Buttekofferi - They very big??

I've owned a total of three Tilapia (Paratilapia) buttekoferi.

#1. I bought one in 1987 at 4" from the Hamilton Aquarium society auction for $5. It died in 1998 at 18" and was a very aggressive fish. It was in a tank with a Phractocephalus hemioliopterus and fought constantly with it.

#2. I was given a breeding pair at between 7"(f)-9"(m) in 1999 from a member of the St Catharines Aquarium Society because they were too aggressive in his tank. I've had them in the 15,000 were generally they were very peaceful to the other fish but the male would attack the female at times and blinded one of her eyes.

A couple of years ago the male died at 15" and the female is doing very well by herself is about also about 15"now.

They had breed many times in the 15,000 but the fry were eaten by tank mates.

The red terror (festae) has so many different genus names Amphilophus, Cichlasoma, Heros or Nandopis. I do not own any.

I do have a very similar cichlid Amphilophus or Cichlasoma urophthalmus. The largest I've ever raised was only 10" ( a female, 17 years old obtained in 1993 and died in 2010 just a month ago) and they are in the 15,000.

Paulicea lutkeni (Zungaro zungaro)

I only have ever owned one.

Bought it in 2001 from Jake at The Fish Place in North Tonawanda New York at 15" for $30.00. It was a very vicious fish when kept in tanks 800 gallons and under but when I put it in the big tank it was very peaceful to anything that did not fit in its mouth.

It died in 2004 and was 41". The Wallago leerii female dominated it.

Pseudoplatystoma Fasciatum (tiger shovelnose)

I have owned 6

#1. Bought in 1974 at 12" from Tropic Aquaria for $19.00
Died in 1981 at 31"
#2. Bought in 1990 at 8" from Big Al's Aquarium Services in Mississauga for
$25.00
Died in 2004 at 53 1/2"
#3. Given to me in 1995 by a hobbyist named Jim Martin at 18"
Died in 2003 at 38"
#4. Bought in 1995 at 3" from Big Al's Aquarium Services in Hamilton for $10.00.
Died in 2004 at 44".
#5. Given to me in 2000 by a customer of Jerry Draper The Tropical Fish Room in Brantford at 14"
Died in 2003 at 35".
#6. Given to me in 2006 by a customer (Sheldon) of Jerry Draper The Tropical Fish Room in Brantford at 22"
In my big tank but not growing very fast. Probably stunted. About 30"

Sorubimichthys planiceps - Ever had a big one of these??

I have owned 3

#1. Bought in 1987 from Big Al's Aquarium Services in Mississauga for
$50.00 at 11".
Died in 2003 at 58"
#2. Bought in 1992 from Big Al's Aquarium Services in Mississauga for
$65.00 at 14".
Died in 2004 at 51"
#3. Given to me in 2006 by a customer (Sheldon) of Jerry Draper The Tropical Fish Room in Brantford at 28"
In my big tank and now approx 42"

i noticed a lack of Channa Species - Any reason??

I have owned them in the past. But they are now illegal where I live so nobody mentions if they still have any..........

- i see you have Wallago Leeri, What about Wallago Attu?

Never owned a Wallago attu but did buy my male W. leerii thinking it was one because it was very undernourished and sold as an attu. Never having seen one in real life I was ignorant.

Hope this answers your list of q's OK.

Since they are all captive bred and micro chipped it makes no sense the USA still bans them.
I know it is ridiculous.

What monsters do you own?

Thank you for the replies, very much appreciated!! thank you.

I've had a fair share of monsters, not massive ones though.

Dovii, Manguense, Synspilum, Hartwegi, Maculicauda, Festae, Couple Pike cichlids, Fenestratum, Oscars,

Phractocephalus, Pseudoplatystoma Fasciatum, Brachyplatystoma Juruense, Sperata (sp?), Mystus Nemurus (Albino), Auchenoglanis Occidentalis,

Hydrocynus Vitattus, Osteoglossum Biccorhosum, Scleropages Jardini, Channa Micropeltes, Fahaka Puffer, Does my 9 inch Clown loach count? :D
Saddle Back Birchir, couple other species of birchir,

Countless other species that i forget not all monsters though.

I am on the look out for a RTC x TSN and also a Merodontotus Tigrinus! I fancy a Leiarius Pictus and a Scleropages Formosus too, but for i am only an apprentice so can not quite afford them yet.

Wow thats an impressive list of big fish.

Anyone who raises a clown loach to 9" is doing well.

What size are your tanks?

I have had these all at seperate times, not at once.

I just sold my Sperata and Jardini.

I have had tanks ranging from 3 foot to 7 foot. I should hopefully have an 8 foot before new year.

I've been keeping my fish for around 10 years and the clown loach was one of the first i got. i have two or three around that size and a couple slightly smaller.
I got the hobby from my Dad. He had a very large ttank around the time i was born (23 years ago) and had a 40''+ RTC with countless other monsters too. But he has had fish since his early teenage years same as me.

The new 8 foot tank will be great.

You have a long history in the fish hobby and your dad sure started you off well.

I have never grown clown loaches very big or very fast. The largest I ever grew was 8" from a 1" fry. That took 10 years. I do have a friend who has grown 1" to 12" in only 3 years. He was doing massive water changes every 3 days and feeding earth worms and sinking trout pellets.
