- Panaque Suttoni - How big is it??
- Tilapia Buttekofferi - They very big??
- Any nice Festae's??
I bought mine as Panaque suttoni in 1993 from Maraine Resources (Sean Wilson) when he was operating out of Tropic Aquaria in Brampton Ontario.
I bought it at 3" for $20.00. This was before the wicked price increases that followed and put them into the many hundred of dollars range.
It died in 2004 and was about 10" long at the time. If it was listed as a current fish on my last list it was incorrect...sorry.
However according to Planet Catfish the fish is now identified as Panaque cochliodon and has been sold by mistake as Panaque suttoni and Panaque suttonorum in the past. It appears that "P. suttonorum is restricted to the Lake Maracaibo basin and virtually no aquarium fishes are exported from there".
Tilapia Buttekofferi - They very big??
I've owned a total of three Tilapia (Paratilapia) buttekoferi.
#1. I bought one in 1987 at 4" from the Hamilton Aquarium society auction for $5. It died in 1998 at 18" and was a very aggressive fish. It was in a tank with a Phractocephalus hemioliopterus and fought constantly with it.
#2. I was given a breeding pair at between 7"(f)-9"(m) in 1999 from a member of the St Catharines Aquarium Society because they were too aggressive in his tank. I've had them in the 15,000 were generally they were very peaceful to the other fish but the male would attack the female at times and blinded one of her eyes.
A couple of years ago the male died at 15" and the female is doing very well by herself is about also about 15"now.
They had breed many times in the 15,000 but the fry were eaten by tank mates.
The red terror (festae) has so many different genus names Amphilophus, Cichlasoma, Heros or Nandopis. I do not own any.
I do have a very similar cichlid Amphilophus or Cichlasoma urophthalmus. The largest I've ever raised was only 10" ( a female, 17 years old obtained in 1993 and died in 2010 just a month ago) and they are in the 15,000.
