You are right

The cichlids and barbs where placed there to breed and provide a natural food source for the bigger fish. Everyone enjoys the small fish as well as the big fish. None of the small fish are unwanted.

1. I want to say that the tank is the most amazing PRIVATE tank I have ever seen (even though it’s only in pictures).

2. I sat here for 6 hours and read every post and reply made on the thread, and you sir are an amazingly informative and knowledgeable individual. I wish there were more people like you on this thread!

3. Is a question. As I am going to be moving back to the states in the next few months, is it possible to have a 600-1000 gallon DIY tank and keep cichlids and barbs in a tank that size for the exact reason you’re doing it?

4. with the amount of "smaller fish" or natural feeders... Did that make a major difference in your water parameters?

Cichlids and barbs can be mixed however it really depends on what barbs and cichlids you have in mind. You will see in videos off the 15,000 tinfoil barbs living comfortably with oscars, dempseys, central american and small african cichlids. I do have a emperor cichlid in the tank over 20" but his nature is to bully rather than kill anything that does not fit in his mouth so barbs over 4" have proven safe with him.

Water parameters have not been an issue since all the smaller cichlids and the few barbs have been bred in my water as have most of their parents and grandparents and so on in some cases for several generations.

Still new here and I am Reeeeeeeeealy curios as to how big you're pangasius sanitwongsei grew in that 52K tank? The biggest captive p.sanitwongsei ive ever seen are those in the berlin zoo and their tank is much smaller than the 52K.

Welcome to MFK

Mine never grew all that big. I got 6 up to 36". I lost some in 2004 and gave away 3 smaller ones later to a hobbyist with an indoor pond. The three I gave him never reached 30" before moving on to another world.

My Wallago leerii female has a way of stunting some fishes growth.

Thanx for the info really interesting, keep enjoying the tank
