The 4 drains go to the filters which I will have updated pictures of very soon. I return from the filters with a couple of 2" pipes. The overflow is strictly sending extra water added to outside ponds.
I have used fiberglass in the past and hated the fumes so much I stayed away from using it in either of my large tanks.
I live in the country and use well water untreated.
Doing it over I would not have built the bird room above the tank and I would have built the tank deeper (15 to 20 feet). If I had the resources I would have installed the glass on the 36 foot and 27 foot sides with the glass going about 10' tall.
Congrats on building your 630 gal tank. I presume it is glass. I built a 800 gal all glass with John Petteresen a master tank builder doing 99% of the work and me the rest in my wheelchair. It was an eyeopener. I did build a 500 plywood tank with a glass front. I actually was surprised that outside of installing the glass (I needed help) I was able in my wheelchair to do everything else myself once the plywood was cut to the sheet size I needed. I did fiberglass it and got about 10 years out of it before it leaked.
I've got a few red devils in the 15k and they breed every two to three weeks and have a schoal of about 500 babies right now. The big Dovi acts as their bodyguard and helps keep the larger fish away. It lasts about a week before all the babies are gone and the cycle repeats.
Hope you had a great Christmas
Thanks for the answer...well my new tank its not glass.... its plywood with fiberglass....and it has 5 windows...im going to try to take photos and post here in the forums but right now i dont have a camera......anyway this is my first "big" tank and it was a marathon to do it because i live on a 16th floor so we had to build it on a diferent place..then cut it and then bring it to my department on 2 pieces so it can fit into the elevator...and then we pasted it...
I choose fiberglass because i had some problems on my previous 150 gal glass tank...and i wanted something really solid....i didt want to have problems of water escaping or something like that on a 16th floor, and i wasnt shure if 4 big pieces of glass could hold that pressure of water on a long term situation... I used a special sealing on windows and drains that people use for boats...plus the hypoxy paint of the fiberglass.. just one week ago i fill it up of water and everything seems to work fine.....the tank its on the concrete joists of the building and everything its fine..
It has 2 drains on the bottom and one skimmer...the water goes to a 200 gal fiberglass sump that i designed , then the water goes to a jacuzzi flters that takes the very little particles left (less than 3 micron ore something like that) and then the water returns to the tank by 4 returns..each one on one corner...2 of the returns move the water of the surface and the other two the water of the bottom...
So here is another question related to your aquarium.... the water is returned to your tank by 2 pipes.... this pipes moves only the water of the surface? or also moves the water of the middle and bottom of the aquarium? The movement of water that creates the drains its enough? the fish can feel on a real river or lake? I mean i know its enogh and it works but i just want to know how the water its flowing and how you designed it so the water have enough oxygen for all the big fish you have and if the fish can swim with running water under the tank or its just like a pond and there is only a lot of movement of water on the surface of the aquarium?
Anyway thanks and hope you had a great Christmas too...
