I never try to grow piranhas fast. My oldest living piranha I bought in 1985 at Aquarium Services (Big Al's) at their original store in Mississauga and he is still doing fine in a 180. It was sold as a black.

yeah, me too! I first tried to get a few specimens from hobbyists in Canada that had bought pirayas from Biotope (Oliver/Sean), then I flew there to pick them up, but the fish jumped out and died. That was in 1998, then in 1999, New Years eve of 2000, I finally got some and I was so happy, again I had to fly there to get them, my girlfriend then was pissed, I told her it was a vacation, but little did she realize it was part of a fish trip planned all along! And I was so hooked, the following year, I flew there and drove up to see Oliver at his place and got all the ones I could afford at that time! Good times!arapaimag;1030935; said:
I did hear of a guy named Al that grew one to 18" in a couple of years. Also George fear brought a piraya in and its on p-fury, measured somewhere around 24", its back in Canada now I believe., that is the largest piranha to date.
I've seen blacks, or rhoms grow from 6-12" but no bigger than that, and take many years. the wild ones, come in as big as 17", max.

How long have you had your scats and monos in these tanks? Have you added much if any salt in the water? It seems like they're healthy and fat!
