I always enjoy reading this thread. Arapaimag, everybody's dying to see more videos of your awesome tanks. Perhaps, Neo's just too busy. Can you upload some to youtube to whet our appetites? Would love to see the other tanks in your fishroom as well.

Hi arapaimag, I'm building a large Amazon Basin predator tank for a museum in Poland, and would like some help tracking down some large fish. Shawn Wilson

Just run a search on the web, many online retailers sell Amazonian fish, I've found pimas for sale without trying...

Well, today i had an expeiriance similar to yours. One of my large plecos(named scalez, and 13'' long) got stuck in a rock and died :( Because i was away, i was unaware he died. Most of the other fish in the tank died(including a 12'' pleco, a tilapia, my beloved 9'' show jack dempsey:cry: and her fry, and some other assorted cichlids. The only fish that survived were an oscar, a convict and my 17'' common pleco. :)The water levels were OK before it happened(now they're terrible from all the dead fish. I'm pretty sure this is what happened because i found the one pleco in a rock and because the water levels were great. I know you had a time in your tank when half of the large fish died.

VERY SORRY to hear that you lost so many special fish. We all at times are humbled by this hobby.

You are a good hobbysit so try and learn from this and best of success in the future.

I have found that a huge airstone or air outlet in my larger tanks seems to prevent the massive deaths that can occur after a large fish dies and pollutes the tank. I have done this to my 52k,15k and 800 and so far it has worked.

Sorry about the Dempsey. It was my first "BIG FISH" as a kid and I kept one alive for 10 years after I obtained it as an 8 year old. I took it to many fish shows and won lots of ribbons and trophies with it.

Great to hear from you Shawn (Owned Marine Resources in the 1990's)
I have some brycons and dorado salminus. They would form a very fast moving active group. There are about 24 or so of them between 18" to 24"

contact me if they would be OK

There are too many posts for me to fully catch up on all that has happened with your MASSIVE aquarium, so just a few simple questions.

How much did the initial construction cost?
COst of maintenance (food, filter media, water replacement, etc...) per year?
have you ever dove in?
ideas for a saltwater equivilent?

Never kept track of how much to build
Have around a hundred other tanks beside this one so I don't keep track of how much food etc.
The most I spent on hydro has been $1,200 however most month's average about half that and heating the same.
I have never dived in the tank but a few others have doing maintenace. poor photo attached
I have 5 saltwater tanks but nothing very big.
