Buttkiss, the 41 Year Old Pacu

I pose a question to all of you.

If you bought a Pacu of this size (regardless of the age), would you place it in a 75 gallon tank? Or would you go larger? Perhaps smaller?

You can't give away pacu this size 99% if the time.
But if i purchased a small one. HMM


Well since a 75g gets you 40yrs. If i was 18 again and planned on living another 60-70 yrs then i would go for a 20g to garruntee my fish lived that 60-70yrs.

But since in reality i probably only have another 20-30 yrs worth of life left. I would go for a 300g so that it would die in a couple of years and I can get different fish every few years.

Any vendor who knowingly sells pacu to the general uninformed public will have some answering at the pearly gates. I understand St. Peter knows quite a bit about fish...

I have seen the thread i think, its a large glass tank in the middleish of the shop with a center overflow.

So again reading and comprehension has a way of sorting its self out.
METABOLITES --- read up you may learn something.

And all the same stuff can be said about that pet shop. Like they replace them weekly and the owner is a liar and all that other garbage. IMO

Also 35 doesn't equal 40. I think its 5 off.

You ever seen a human die of old age? The last 5yrs have major changes.

How do you know the true lifespan of pacu, you or Jeepguy? There are cases of koi living over 200 years..........where do you guys get your information on the longevity of a fish, do you pull out of somewhere?

Reading is not your strong point, is it? I said regardless of age. Do not bring age into the picture...

I don't think anyone's blaming the OP. I would have posted the story as well...I think people are just jumping on the aquarist for keeping a large fish in a small tank.

Cool story. I don't agree with the upkeeping but it's better then what alot of other pacus go threw.

exactly, believing it or not is upto individuals. we can always disagree with a post but there's no point in arguing un-necessarily. if people believe they are right then why the desperate insecurity to thrust your views on others. lets not put people 'on trial'. we should not IMHO flame the guy who posted.

even i find 41 years hard to believe. if its true then its amazing... another freakish story... but at the same time I agree that pacus are highly abused in the aquarium trade and should be provided with more respect and better care ..... it may survive for any number of years in any small tank but its no fun for the fish... its just a caged existence...... same applies to RTCs and all other monsters..... not many people here can house most monster fish 'ideal' size tanks .... lets not forget... fish keeping is an attempt to keep fish in captivity for observing and appreciating and in doing so involves providing best possible care.

lets not flame fellow members without evaluating ourselves.. we all or at any point have been guilty of committing some wrongs to fish.. so lets BE COOL..
